Blaine and the Pacific Bailroads.

Brooklyn Eagle. The Pacific railroads bold about 140,000,000 acres of public land; they hav? received in subsidies some $63000,000 and they owe the government $43,000,000 interest money. In return for all the favor and indulgeuoe shown them they have shirked their houorableand lawful obligations and endeavored by every device a. d form of trickery to defraud their benefactors, the people of the US. A man who has countenanced and aided them in this shameful course is now running for president on the republican ticket. Mr. Blaine’s elect tion would be tantamount tp an in dorsement of their dis .ouesty. It would be a challenge te every government debtor to cheat the treasury of its dues, and an invitation to every thief in the federal service to perse vere in his plundering.

Keep it before t' e people that the Democratic House at its last session passed bills to forfeit some 90,000,000 acres of unearned land grants and reserve them for the use of actual settlers, but the bills were choked off by the Republican Senate.
