Let’s see! “A cowardly, intamous liar, and dirty sneak. “ Yes, that is the size yt it- It means our neighbor of the Republican. ■ ■' Republican orators with great gusto remark that the losses during the admiustration of Fraud Hayes was the infinitesmal part of a cent on a thousand dollars. In round numbers, several millions of dollars were siolrn.
At the town elections iu Connecticut last Tuesday, the Kepublieans re ceived a'loretuste u£ wuat they may expect In that State next month.— Democratic all along the line! Democratic mnjority in Hartford last year 450; this year it is 1000. ■While the Republican candidate for Secretary of State received about 10,000 majority over th« Democratic nominee, he did not receive a majorot all the votes cast. H•is in a minority. and Ohio is a doubtful State for the November contest.
Democrats, and all opposed to the corruptionists ih power, before you cast your bal ot compare it with that at the head or our columns. See that no republican electors have been inserted in place of Democratic, and the ticket otherwise tampered with. See that every name is on it. and in Its proper place. Be not deceived The enemy is desperate! Read yout ticket carfully.
Hon- DP- Baldwin,of Logansport, addressed a small squad of Republicans at the Court House Wednesday afternoon. His remarks were identical with those of his party speakers who preceded him. He endeavored to show from tables con* structed for the purpose, tha*. Republican, Didn’t steal as great amount as the Democrats—the difference in the total of collections considered. During its 23 years control Republican thieves have stolen more than twice as much as wm stolen in the entire seventy two years previous. The Deuple are interest in the round num bers —the grand total—not the per cent, on a thousand collected.
The Republican candidate for Circuit Prosecutor should be better employed than in circulating a report tha: his competitor was under the in, fluence of liqur. at Goodlund, on the day Col. Gray addressed the people at that place We parted with Mr. Smith at 4:15 o’clock p. in. and know that he had not been indulging up to that hour. Mr. Hardyj who presided over the night meeting addressed by Mr. S., and who was'in Rensselaer the present week, assures us that th« gentleman made a'elling speech before a large audience, and certainly was not in the condition stated. So the charge fails-
With a statement signed by over a hundred old and intimate neighbors residing in Ohio an 'i Indiana, backed with that of himself and the affidavits of others, our next Governor, Col, I. P. Gray gives a quietus to the falsehoods of his enemies with ref' erence to his connection with the Know-Nothing party, or any bogus insurance company. We heard him declare with emphasis tnat the person who would persist in circulating the falsehood, was “a cowardly, infamous liar, and a dirty sneak,” That means Gentle George. It fits him to aT.
Calkins has never replied to th* Widow Duncan’s second letter Come to time, William. Let us see We believe you secured her removal from the P, O. at Westville because she refused to pay a sl2 assesment to defrayyour campaign expenses! The idea of a man receiving' the salary of a member of Congress, demand ng bls campaign expenses from a poor widowed postmistress is revolting enough, but to cause h4r removal on refusal to c inply is certainly repulsive, K. -
The Same Old Game.
We have reliable Information that a set of men calling t he me e 1 v e s Green baskets i , TndMnapolis have organized in the iißerejt of the Republican party, to. replbat the sell out game that was attemptee In 1876. They claim to be abtinlgundei the in* structions of "OeberAl Butler and Colonel Plymptdh, : his '• manager They have beep sending secret agents throughoiu the Sfate instruct* •ng Greenbackers to vote the Republican ticket, and will this week send out a paper called* the “Globe,” the same paper that had a short existence and was finally merged into the “Dawn” which was denounced by the Greenback leaders all over the State until it ceased to exist. The Globe will be edited by the Paymaster General of the Plumed Slights of Columbia, a Blaine and Logan Club of Indianapolis, pretending to advocate General Butler’s election, but privately instructing Greenbackers to knife the Butkr electors and vote the Republican electoral ticket. These men are opeiating with Solon
Chase, ot Maiue, and are in the pay of the Republican Committee. Tie scheme has been denounced by such Greenbackers as General James B. Weaver, of Iowa; Governor Begole and General W. P. Innis.of Mic iganHon. E. H. Gillette. t of lowa, Chair man of the National Greenback Committee, and Major Milroy, 001. A. T. bliss, Hon. Richard 41 repg, H m. John S. Bender, Hon. B. F. Shively, candidate for CongrejS in the Thirteenth District; William B. Mobler of Shelby county, and WtlHam Soars, Esq., of Hancock county and James R. Hightshue and Peter A. Canary, of Miami county, all prominent Indiana Greenbackers. L'lib infamous move in the interestjof the Republican par* ty must be exposed, so that the honest JJteenbackers may bo informed of the contemplated treachery.

Government Interest
To the Editor of the Indianapolis News: Will you please state if during Buchanan’s administration tnat 12 per cent, interest was paid by the U. 8. government? Also, define the issue of the seven per cent, bonds hs to the interest, J C. F [A long search shows no such rate, the highest during the period covering Buchanan’s administration being six p>r cen . stock loan. It is posable that at rhe outbreak of the war, oi during the panic of 1857. some tern porary deficit required a tempo’’nry loan at a higher rate If any one can give the facts, we s ould like to have them. The 730 bonds bore 7.30 per cent, interest, which on a SSO bond, which was the lowest denomination amounted to just one cent a day, This loan was for three years, being fundable in 5 20s. all of wnien have been paid —[Ed News.]
Baldwin, and all the rest of the re, publican orators, try to impose upon their hearers that the Democracy are in favor of pensioning rebel so Idlers, Thay well kn ow that the constitutional amen meats forever provide against that, and ’hey simply reflect upon the intelligence of their hearer g every time they resoit to that kind of talk.
The Hon. Dawson Smith was in town last Tuesday and Wednesday. He left fur Rensselaer on the Wednesday morning train. Mr. Smith reports his prosjects for election to the office of Presecuting Attorney, as being very bright,- Kentland Democrat. Baldwin referred to John B. as Buchanan’s Secretary of the Treasury, Baldwin is off. Floyd was Secretary of war. If we don’t have a cold winter corn husk sign s a failure; and if J, T. Saunderson isn’t elected Judge of this Circuit “signs” before election are no good.—Kentland Democrat.
Theie has been some inquiry as to whether Mr. J. T. Saunderscn was a soldier or not. Capt. Hanum. of the 2d, Ind., Cavalry, while in this place some week’s ago, said that Mr. S, was a soldier io Co.. Why Edmunds Is Too Busy to Electioneer. New York Times.
Senator Edmunds his not been making speeches for Blaine, in Ohio or elsewhere. He is in Washington looking into the affairs of the Union Pacific railroad company, and striving to devise plans for legislation that will ccmpei that eompauy to fulfill its contracts with the government and pay a part of the Immense deb’ which it owes to the people. The act of 1878, framed by Senator Thurman and himself, wnich was so strenuosly opposed by Blaine, Stephen W. Dorsey, William Pitt|Keliogg, and others of their kind, must be supplemented by new legislation. And so it happens that, while Blaine the jobber and king of the lobby, is posing as the friend ot the people and defender of their rights, the honest Senator from Vermont, the people’s real friend, is ryihg to regain for them a part of <hnt which has been taken away by he influence and acts of Blaine and his fellow-jobbers in aud out of congress.
Blaine and the Pacific Bailroads.
Brooklyn Eagle. The Pacific railroads bold about 140,000,000 acres of public land; they hav? received in subsidies some $63000,000 and they owe the government $43,000,000 interest money. In return for all the favor and indulgeuoe shown them they have shirked their houorableand lawful obligations and endeavored by every device a. d form of trickery to defraud their benefactors, the people of the US. A man who has countenanced and aided them in this shameful course is now running for president on the republican ticket. Mr. Blaine’s elect tion would be tantamount tp an in dorsement of their dis .ouesty. It would be a challenge te every government debtor to cheat the treasury of its dues, and an invitation to every thief in the federal service to perse vere in his plundering.
Keep it before t' e people that the Democratic House at its last session passed bills to forfeit some 90,000,000 acres of unearned land grants and reserve them for the use of actual settlers, but the bills were choked off by the Republican Senate.
