The Jasper County Fair will bo held at Rensselaer on the 9th, 10jh 11th and 12th of September next. A surprise party greeted Abe Simpson, at his home last Saturday, it being his 40th anniversary. County Democratic Convention.
Pursuant to notice the Democratic County Convention met at the Court House, in Rensselaer, Saturday, Aug ust 9th, 1884. Ezra C. Nowels, Chairman of the Democratic Central Committee, called the convention to order and stated Us object to be the nomination of a county ticket to be supported and elected next November. On motion. Mr. Nowels was elected chairman, James W. Douthit and Jas. W* McEwen chasen secretaries. For Treasurer—Win, M, Hoover and Nat. S. Bates, of Marion township* were announced. Mr. Bates withdrew his name, when the nomination of Mr. Hoover was made by acclama tion. For Sheriff— Adam Hess,of Gillam and Washington Scott, of Milroy, were named. A ballot resulted in the nomination of Mr. Hoss, which on motion was made unanimous. Brons W. Harrington was placed in nomination for Commissioner, Ist District, and C. G. Austin for Com*, missioner, 3rd District, by acclamation, ior Surveyor, John P. Dunlap received unanimous vote. The Central Committee was empowered lo make a nomination for Coroner. The Convention was largely aN tended and yery harmonious. The ticket is an excellent on and should be elected.
