Where the Earth Cure Failed. Some years ago a man in Trinity County called Doc. Somethinganothei wrote for the Weavervi'le Journal a short sketch of what befell a man with the scurvy. He got his friends to dig a deep hole, put him standing in it, and 1 cover him up tightly with earth to his chin. They left him to pass the night, hoping to dig him out cured in the morning. It is not known how the plan would have worked, for the coyotes came came along during the hours of darkness and ate his head off. Joaquin Miller stole the story and amplified it. A somewhat similar yarn now comes from Minnesota. It is to the effect that a man was paralyzed by a stroke of lightning at Highwater. Some of his friends reasoned that if the earth received electricity from the buried end of a lightning rod, it would in the same manner draw out the charge with which they supposed him to be filled. Therefore, they dug a hole and covered him up to the chin. He died in that position.Qtm Francisco Alia.
