The Prohibition Home Protection party has issued a call for a National convention, to be held in Pittsburgh May 31, to nominate candidates for President, to adopt a prohibition platform, and to transact business as the convention may deem proper. The call is Issued to all citizens, without distinction of section, sex, race, or color, who are in favor of making the prohibition question a National one. The Pennsylvania Republican State Convention will be held at Harrisburg, April 16. The Democrats hold their convention at Allentown, April 9. A Washington correspondent telegraphs: “There is a good deal of talk among members of Congress about the meeting of the National Democratic committee to be held in this city Feb. 32 to select a time and place for holding the next Democratic National convention. But two cities for the convention are mentioned prominently; they are Chicago and St. Louis, with the preponderance of sentiment in favor of the former. As to the time, it is generally taken for granted that it will bo about twenty days after the Republican convention.”....The Virginia Senate—23 to 10—passed the resolution requesting Mahone to resign his seat in the United States Senate. A labor organization of Erie received a letter from Ben Butler in response to an inquiry as to his views and programme. Butler says be has retired from politics for good. He thinks the workingmen gain nothing by separate action.
