A Little Prince of Long Ago.
For Prince Rupert, a ro> al babe “of noble size and remarkable vigor and loveliness,” born in 1619, in the ancient tower of the Strathoff, the ladies of Prague presented “a cradle of carved ivory, embossed with gold, silver and precious gems.” Here the baby slept, all unconscioea of such grandeur, and doubtless the dreamland fancies of “this beautiful sw< et soul” were mueh the same aa those of any forester’s child. The instructress of his baby speech must have behaved with uncommon earnestness and zeal, anxious no less to develop the religious element inherited' from the little one’s mother, since it is gravely recorded that “the first words uttered by the small Prince were, in the Bohemian language, signifying—‘Praise the Lord.’ ” Naturally clocked stockings are tha most striking.
