Telegraphic Summary. EASTERN. At a meeting of preferred stockholders of the Northern Pacific road, held in New York, sixty-three shares voted against and 362,428 shares in favor of Issuing second mortgage bonds to the amount of $20,boo.ooo. A prize-fight of sixty-five rounds was fought,by two savage brutes in Bucks county, Pa. The man who had been pounded the worst won the money on a foul. Three hundred pedple saw the bloody affair. * The first marriage of giants in America, that of Patrick W. O’Brien and Christina jD. Dunz, who show a combined height of fifteen feet three inches, and weigh together 549 pounds, took place the other day at Pittsburgh. The wedding cake was three feet thick and nine feet in circumference, and the wedding ring weighs seventeen dwts., and measures five inches round about. Commodore John M. Berrien, a retired officer of the United States navy, died of paralysis, at Philadelphia. Capt. S. R. Knox, of the navy, who died at Everett, Mass., was in the exploring expedition under Commodore Wilkes m 1838. and approached nearer the South pole than any other vessel of the squadron. John Chisholm was hanged at Newark, N. J., for the murder of his wife. Klein’s collar shop and Cleminshaw’s bottling house at Troy, N. Y., was burned, causing a loss of $55,000. Gov. Butler is highly indignant because the Supreme court of Massachusetts answered in the affirmative his question whether or not a woman is a person, under the statute. A. B. Johnson, who recently killed himself in Utica, appropriated $300,000 belonging to the Mac Donnell estate, of which he had control. Mrs, Mac Donnell is a sister of the dead defaulter. James Ruddy and his wife, son and a lady visitor were murdered at Laconia, N. H-, and the house was set on fire. Thomas Salmon is suspected of the crime, and lies in jail. Phoebe Jane Pauline was assaulted and then murdered about 100 yards from her mother's cottage, near Orange, N. J. The crop of black tea is reported short at New York, and prices are hardening.
