He was 63 years old. The Trustees of the Exhibition hall, at Cork, refused to permit Parnell to speak therein to his constituents. James Russell Lowell, United States Minister to England, has been elected Rector of the Scottish University of St. Andrews, securing 100 votes against 82 for Edward Gibson, Conservative member of Parliament for Dublin university. Many Spanish Republicans have quitted Paris for the frontier. In the Parliamentary contest for the city of Limerick MncMahon, the Parnellite candidate, had a majority over Spaight, Conservative, of 488 votes.
