Democratic Sentinel, Volume 7, Number 22, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 29 June 1883 — Page 3 Advertisements Column 6 [ADVERTISEMENT]
“TWy Say” ha* himself revealed his identity, and a “ Young Democrat,” recognizing in him one of the “ring bosses” prepared an article for this issue of the Sentinel, but we hare the space and time only to present a few of the sailient points contained therein. He wants to know: As you “redeemed all promises o them," (the bosses) what those prom ises were. You refer to the Board of Commissioners; the records shew that one of the.“high positions of trust and honor” forced? upon you, was given by the Board of Commissioners at the rate SSO per year more than a talented youpg Democratic physician offered to perform the duties thereof for. The bid es the “Young Democrat,"in whose welfare you profess a deep, deep interest. received no consideration whatever. Why is this thusiy ? Why are SSO per year actually given to you ? A few years ago, you had not long been a citizen, bids were presented to the jioard for the “position" of physician to the poor. You withdrew your bid, which was for over S3OO, was it not? cut it down to $299 50, returned it, and received the appointment— Who, if any one, informed you that a bid of less than S3OO 00 would wiu? Now there is nothing very wicked i n this, but then one who becomes mer tally offended at the intimation of selfishness, intrigues, sehemings, etc., should not allow “positions” to be forced ? on him in that way. Were you cognizant of the action of the “bosses” in the dlstribktion of whisky and beer in various townships just before the last election? It se, did you protest? If not,, is it not rather cheeky in you to volunteer ad* vice to temperance people? Adam is said to be the only man who never tantalized his wife about “the way mother used to cook* The negroes of Jamaica believe that monkeys enn talk, but will not or fear they will have to w ork.
