A BLESSING TO ALL MANKIND' In these limes when our Newspapers are flooded with patent medicine it is gratifying to know what to procure that will certainly oure you If you are Bilious, blood out of order, Liver inactive, or generally debilitated, there is nothing in the world that will cure you so quickly as Electric Bitters. They are a blessing to all mankind, and can be had for only 60 cents a bottle of F. B. Learning. 2. TARIFF REFORM IN MICHIGAN. There are no doubt, portions of this state in which a a troag protection sen timent prevails, but take the state as a whole and we believe the anti pro.. tectiOn sentiment is in the majority. This is, of course, largely a matter of opinion, and protectionists will take a contrary view; but to far as there are facts upon which to base an opinion, they are, In our judgment, large [y on the side of the tariff reform. The issue was made last fail iu some of the congressional districts in this state with * much clearnoss, a’ld a large share of the service in the con giessionai elections wa< due to the firm stand taken by oposition oandidate. This was conspicuously the case lnthe second and fourth district. In thb former Col. Eldredge defined bis poeition most explicitly in his canvass aud gained votes by so doing, and in the fourth Congressman Yaple followed his opponent, Mr. Burrows, throughout the district, preaching the doctrine of tariff reform, finding a warm support and making converts everywhere.—Detroit Free Press.
The ed tor of the Republican rush* es to the aid of his political brother, the Rensselaer correspondent of the Remington News, and declares we are engaged in the abuse of "one of the most prominent and highly respected citizens of Rensselaer. A man who occupies high positions of of trust arid honor in thfs community, a successful professional man, and an honorable, upright, Christian gentleman.* Bro. Marshall certainly gives this—what-do-you cell-him—a firstclass certificate of character, but what will it benefit his high-toned friend so long as ho withholds his name from his readers? Bro. Mar shall, if he would be fair, should state whether or not his valued friend, who occupies several “high positions of trust and honor in this community,” abused us a little on sundry occasions. Will ihe Republican state how many “high positions” his nameless friend occupies, and why, above all others, be should be selected to fill more than one at a time? Ir* conclusion, we will say for t' e relief of the Republican, that we propose to go for his friend only iu his role of a selfish, scheming, intrigueing politician.
A - monument to the memory of the late E. C. Sumner of Benton county, is to be made bv A. A.McKain of It dlannpelis, and is to cost $13,000. The same artist also has a design for a fine monument for the late Alexander J. Kent. The designs are furnished by J. W. MaycaDn, of Boston, and are similar in design to that of Henry S Lane, at Crawfordsvillt*, which tne Journal of that place pronounces very beautiful, and which was t'te work of the same artists,— Kentland Gazette. * Republicans claim that a RepublL can Senate will prevent any tariff reform next winter. But the Democratic House can map put their policy go before the country on the issue* and secure the next Senate, as welj as the Presidency.
