INDIANA STATE NEWS.

The mail-carrier service between Rabbit Hash, Ky., and Rising Sun, Ind., has been abolished. A PosTorrrcx has been established at Robinson, Greene county, and Daniel B. Corbin appointed Postmaster. There is considerable counterfeit money In circulation in Southern Indiana, and the amount seems to be increasing. Among the Postmasters commissioned lately were: 0. F. Means, it Brookfield, and J. B. Pentecost, at Goodwin’s Corner. The name of the postoffice at Ingalston, Marlon county, has been changed to Beach Grove, and that at Spades Depot, Ripley county, to Sapea The Rev. M. M Halllnan, formerly of St Mary’s Catholic Church, in Lrfayette. has been appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of little Bock, Ark. Two Mormon ministers have been holding meetings in the south part of Orange township, about eight miles from Connersvllle, in an old school-house. Van Amburo’s show, wintering at Conneraville, is preparing to start out about the middle of April, with a gorgeous array of new paint and recruited animals. The following Indiana Postmasters have been appointed: Frances Macartney, Angola; Humphrey Forsha, Ben Davis; John G. Saxton, Bengal; Martin W. Trent, CarrolL Harrington, who killed his son-in-law, at Newburg, was discharged from oustody at the preliminary examination, the court holding the killing to have been done in self-defense. Two botb, 7 or 8 years of age, the sons of John Czezik and Andrew Smith, living near Porter Station, were dangerously poisoned by eating the bulbous roots of the water hemlock, which they supposed were Indian potatoes.

There died at the Allen county Infirmary James H. Starke, who twenty-five years ago was the Superintendent of the Institution In which he breathed his last He had saved nothing from his office, and for the last four years was dependent on the charity that he himselrtiad once dispensed. Hon. John C. New and Hon. W. H. H. Miller, of Indianapolis, and'Gen. George B. Williams, of Lafayette, the commission appointed to locate the Government buildings at Fort Wayne and Terre Haute, arrived in Fort Wayne last week and viewed the various sites proposed. They will take their recommendation to the Secretary of the Treasury, by whom the Bite selected will be first made known. We give below a mass of statistics collected by the Indiana Farmer upon the crops at this date, which were gathered by a great number of correspondents all over the State. In regard to the wheat crop, both the acreage and condition is reported in per cents, compared with that of any fair average year. For April 1 last year the per cent of an average acreage was 102.1, and condition 111. This year the per cent of acreage is 100 and condition .15. The facts are given fuller in the table by State divisions. Nearly all reports state that it is possible, under favorable weather in the next two weeks, that the condition of the wheat crop may be greatly Improved. All reports from the Central and Southern divisions agree that March was unusually hard on it Many counties report more or loss damage by the Hessian fly last fall. All who refer to the matter say that in undrained clay soils the wheat plant has suffered most of the freezing, and that it is this cause chiefly which has lowered the per cent of condition. The broadcast sowing as a rule is much below that of the drilled wheat, but it is fortunate that only a small per cent is sown broadcast The following table shows the averages by per cents, of the crops named in the several counties. Many reporters were uncertain as to peaches and did not report many oounties, and so the average on this is given on the counties reporting only:
