HON. GEORGE MAJOR.
We have heard it suggested that the name of Hon. George Major would probably be presented to the Legielature for the office ot Director of the State Prison North. The rule of the Sentinel in such matters is sileace, but we do not hesitate, if Mr. Major will accept the place, to make this case an exception. Mr. Major is a man thoroughly qualified for the position, and enjoys to a degree rarely seenred the confidence of his fellow citizens. As a member of the Senate, to which position he was twice elected in a District containing oyer 1,200 Republican majority Senator Major endeared himself to the Democratic party by a course in which independence, patriotism and steadfastness of purpose were equally conspicuous. ■lit. is only historic truth to say that but for Mr. fij-i’s such is in being twice elected from his j Republican District, and the lojal ft adfastness with which during all these eight years he wisely counseled and vigorously aided in procuring Democratic sqqcessel, veryimportant attainments iq the interest of the Democratic party, which are also history, never could have been accomplished. We trust and believe that should it i transpire that this worthy gentleman should wish the places Democratic Legislature will cheerfully do the correct and handsome thing by unanimously selecting him as one of the three Direct rs of the Prison North. —Indianapolis Sentinel. Kingman (Kansas) Citizen: Ogje Yeu. ma n’s ti ce resembles the new moon since the Democrats had a chance to dofi their mourning goods, and it dees us good to see them happy once more. James Nickell started tor the Territory last week for a three week’s hunt, accom panted by Mr. McCoy, of Indiana We expect to go over and help them eat ‘bai’ on their return.
