BEAUTY REGAINED.

James Welsh has been Appointed Commiss’oner of Drainage, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Daniel B. Miller. Esq., were appointed Jury Commissioners at the last teim of the Jasper Circuit Court. Auditor Nowels and his brother C. D, went to LaFayette on business Wednesday. The jail is nearly completed and will bo ready for occupation on December Ist. It is a good building, and well constructed, Jno. Way mire and Asa O. Prevo, m mb er s elect of the county legislature will assume the duties of their office at the next term. Dr. Antrim, Recorder elect, or “Old Moss Back,” as the Republican is pleased to style him, was in town one day this week. He will cot record > our deeds for you until after May Ist 1884 The County Auditor is ousy making the November settlement. You bet your bottom dollar that the sheets will balance. Hon. J. C. Cushman, Secretary of the Indiana. Illinois and lowa Railway Company, was in town day, on business connected with the road. Two divorces were granted at the lust term of court; to-wit: William K. Miner, from Octavia Miner, and Louisa Hays from Frana L. Haye. It will be remembered that the last named is now serving out a term in the Michigan City son. Work is progiesriiug rapidly on the Indiana Illinois and lowa Kail Road in the Northern part of the county. The Odd Fellows have been getting a lot of new Dodge parapherna> lia. The Lodge is in god shape financially and otherwise. Hon. Thomas J. Wood, who “scoop cd” the patriot who “never saw a trace chain,” in a recent letter to a member of the Jasper County Demo cratic Central Committee, says;
•'Give my deepest gratitude to all friends in Jasper county. The only way that I can pay them for their fidelity to me is to do right.” We bel.eve that Senator Wood will do right and will stand upon the aide of the people as ha alway has since he entered public life. Jno. East, formerly of Jordan township but now a resident of Bismarck. Dakota, spent a few days with friends here. He likes Dakota and will stay there. The Catholic church (Be. Augustine) is approaching completion. George Nagle is superintending its construction. It will be a fine building. The enterprise of our catholic friends here is commendable, and should be followed by three or four other ehurch organizations here. Cal Porter has purchased and now occupies the premists formerly owned by C. H. Price. Dr. Charle’s Recipe Book should be in eveiy household in the country, as it is replet with practical information on every subject which may arise In the houpe, on the farm, in the work sb,, p, and in the office. It must meet with a ready sale. See the advertisement in another of our paper. Fabal Accidxmt.—On Friday afternoom last, John Taylor, • brakeman on the freight train going south, while engaged in switching, fell between the cars, and his left leg and right thigh were shockingly crashed. Dr. lionghridge was summoned but found the wound* of such a charac ter that surgical aid would be of no avail John was aged about 22, and the support of a widowed mother, who, la response to a telegram arrived on the return train. The sufferer was placed os the south train Wednesday morning and conveyed to his home, accompanied by Dr. Ritter. Ho died Wednesday afiernoos about 3 o’clock. Jchn F.
