HON. FRED HOOVER.
In this Senatorrial District which is Republican by about 700 votes. Frederick Hoover was elected by a majority cf aoout eighty five over H. S. Travis, his competitor. Th® general dissatisfaction among republicans. the unfortunate unpopularity of Mr. Travis, and the very thorough canvas made by Mr. Hoover, together with his wonderful personal popularity and well-known qualifications for the office, all contributed to his ultimate success. Remington has been peculiarly fortunate in furnishing material for State Senators, During the Past eight years Hon. George Major has been the Senator from this district, and now another of her citizens is honored with the position for four years more.—[Remington News. Lafayette Dispatch: Mr. Dougherty and Miss Crosscup were united in wedlock at Rensselaer, last week. Miss LYosscop formerly i esided in Lafayette and has many friends who will be surprised to hear of her marriage. Mr. Dougherty is a prominent business man of Jasper county and is highly jspoke nos by all who know him.

A good, old, motherly country lady the other day noticed a black speck on the face of one of our fair misses, and speak ingot it, took out her handkerchief to remove the speck. The young lady became very indigcant and said- “That is a black courtplaster, put there intentionally to show my fair comolexion by contrast,” To which the old lady replied : “Why don’t you walk a nigger around with you, the contrast would attract more attention than that wee speck.”— Kokomo Dispatch.

G. A. Little of Plymouth, and Rev. G. B. Smith, of Mon*, ticello, to hold a series Jof meetings of the Presbyterian church in Rensselaer, beginning 14th. November, to continue through the 3d and 4th Sabbaths in Nov. It is hoped the friend 3 of the gospel will so arrange their business so as to be able to attend all the meetings, and also help in the service of song.
