The Kentland News contains the following short sketch of the Democratic nominee for State Senator, best known all over this county by the sobriquet of Fred Hoover: Our candidate for Senator, the Hon. Frederick* Hoover, of Jasper county, is one of the best ami most successful farmers in the district. Born and raised in this State he knows the wants and necessities of ev ry class of people in the state as well or probab y better than any man of our acquaintance: broad and liberal in his views, if elected ha will make one of the best representative men there will bo in the next Senate of Indiana. Mr- Hoover was born in Henry county, Indiana, where he remained until the breaking out of the war, when we find him with his father nud six brothers fighting for the flag of his country and always ready for duty. He was Captpin of company H. 69th Indiana, and was -a brave und gallant soldier. After the war was over he removed to Jasper county, where he was elect ed county commissioner on the Democratic, ticket by 150 majority over one of the best and most popular republicans in the county, notwithstanding the fact that the county had at that time 300 republican majority. He came to Jasper county poor, but by industry and good management | has accumulated 1000 acres of as j good laud as there is in this part of | the state. Mr. Hoover was appointed 1 by the Legislature ol 1878 one of the Directois of the State Prison North, a. duty he performed with honor to himself and profit to the state. Farmers and others of Newton, Benton and Jasper counties, the above is a short sketch of the man the democrats of this district preseat to you for your suflrages. If you are true to your selves, and also to the best interests of the state, you will elect him by at least 500 majority.
