SNAKE AND DOG STORY.
The following are the facts connected with a fight which took place between a snake and dog, at Mitchell, Ind., last Tuesday week: Levi S. Sanders, a farmer near the Oran&e and Lawrence county line, was attracted to his dog by his unusual actions and bemoanings, to find him confronting a monster snake nine feet seven and a quarter inches in length, and eight and three-quarter inches in circum ference. The combat was fierce, fiery and furious, when, after a mighty struggle of one hour for the mastery, the snake cocked up Its head, and with that lurid glare of eyes and lathering tongue peculiar only to his snakeship, madejja last desperate leap for the canine, and quick as a flash of ligntuing coiled his huge length arouDd the dog’s neck, and almost instantly choked him well nigh unto death; but in the very nick of time a neighboring dog came to the rescue, and with fire beaming in hi 3 eyes, grasped the situation, seized the snake by the head in the twinkling of an eye, and unrolled the massive reptile from his dying comrade’s neck, killing the snake, and saving the life of one of the most Taithfui watch dogs in all that fertile valley, E.
