LET IT BE TWICE REMEMBERED.
Kentland Gazette: Let it be remembered that every Democratic member now in Congress from Indiana, voted last week against the bill to reduce internal revenue taxes. Yes, they voted no£ to remove the tax on bank checks, etc., etc., which capital is able to and does pay, and from which is derived an annual rev*, enue of oyer two and a quarter mils lion of dollars that goes directly into the United States Treasury. This was right, and we hope the people will remember it. And now let it be remembered that seven of the Republican Congressmen from Indiana voted to increase tho tax on woolens, hosiery, shirts, knit goods, drawers, etc., thirtysfive to eighty-five cents on the dollar, and the retention of from 89 to 92 per cent, tariff duty on the value of the cheaper kinds of woolen blankets which the poor must use, every cent of said duties going into the pockets of the monopolists, and not one penny Into the United States Treasury. And the Gazette’s candidate, DeMotte, voted for this iniquitous robbery of the people for the benefit of monopolies, while the Democratic members of Congress voted for a reduction of the taiiff. Let this, too, be remembered !
