Quite a number of new residences have been commenced within a few days on lots near the depot. Ho! ye Flax men!—Bates & Havens have just received a load of Flax Heed which they are now ready to loan. In order to give impetus and success to the bill before Congress to pension Grant, it has been given out by his friends that he recently got bit in a stock speculation and hus failed. The hay barn of Bates and Irwin, north-east of the depot, at this place was blown down Wednesday. Father Havens’ horse, which occupied a stall in it escaped without injury. Jas. Thompson George McCarthy, George Hopkins, Jo.»u Carmichael, Edward Parcels and others have bought lots of David, Nowels, and are either building or preparing to build reside’nses. The Board of Commissioners will offer the Farming implements at the poor farm for sale on Friday of nexf week. At the same time the Board will rent the farming lands on said poor farm for grain rent. . The young men arrested by Sheriff Powell a short time ago for burglary at Pleasant Ridge had their trial Wed nesday, plead guilty and seuteneed—one fori year and the other for 2 years in the Northern Prison. They were conveyed to Michigan City yesterday
