Surveyors Alter and Miller have made a preliminary survey of a line for the new rail road from this place to within a half-mile of Salem, and report it to be one of the best; that at no point will thu grade bo more than 16 feet to the mile, and the ave rage for cuts and fills not over 2 feet. They also state that the connection at .Rensselaer will require six miles less track than by the proposed route further north.
