DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM. 1. We, the Democracy of Indiana, in Delegate Convention assembled, congratulate the Democracy of the country upon the harmony prevailing within its organization, and upon its unanimity in sin- purposes to cast behind it every occasion ami sentimentof discord, and to stand as one man for success in 18S0; and we give assurance to the Democracy of the country that, accepting the declaration of principles, and purposes, that may be made at Cincinnati, and the candidates who may he there chosen, we will give to them our earnest and undivided support. ■_>. We believe t hat laws should be enacted, executed and administered only for the public good, and all class legislalion, ana all favoritism in the affairs of Government, should be defeated and made odious; that taxes should bs levied justly, affd the most rigid economy should control public expenditures; that the elections must be freed from the control of’the army, and of partisan officials. in that they shall be fair and honest as they onee were; that the rightful jurisdiction of the State Courts must be restored, in all cases where it has been usurped by the Federal authority, so that justice may be administered cheaply and speedily. 3. The coiu and paper money of the country should be of uniform value, and readily convertible, and should have as great purchasing power as the money of other first class commercial countries of the world, and the papermoney, like the coin, should be furnished by the United States, and shonlduot be in excess of such quantityas will he. and remain always, at par with coin. i. Inasmuch as the outstanding Treasury notes are no longer neecssary to the Government in the nse of its credit, and are useful only as money, they should be made subject to taxation, the same as other money. As tax payers, we declare our gratification at the action of the Democratic members of Congress in reducingpnblic expenditure, and in cutting off the allowance and payment of questionable and fraudulent claims, resulting in a saving to the Treasure of more than §100,000,000. We will stand with all our might against the .To-sion of the Republican lenders upon the rights of the States, made for the purpose of bnild- ; in up a strong central power, dangerous to the liberty of the people. We vrill in all fidelity maintain the Constitu- • ion;■! ri-.-ltts and powers of the United States, and s faithfully we will maintain and vindicate the rich: s of the States as reserved to them in the Con
stitntam. (!. The Legislature or 1870 is entitled to honorable men!ion for having redeemed the pledges of rite Democratic Convention of 187fi to provide by Ir.'v for the comfort and safety of laborers in the mines, and for securing their wages to the persons employed by corporations, and we are in favor of such fun her legislation in the premises as may be !.• ary and proper. \Y congratulate the people of the State that by : :e action of tiie Democrats of the last Leglsla rare in basing representation on population and con i uily of territory only, the shame and taint o! fr ied have been removed from the apportionin' of representation, and that nowthe people will 1 ■■ equally and fairly represented. The people of Indiana are justly proud of ihnir -ystem of free schools, and will maintain i : i in their fill! force and usefulness, and to that end we mus: see to it that the management thereof doc i not become wasteful or extravagant, and that no part of the munificent fund which they hiiv provided shall he used for sectarian or for any other purposes whatever than the support of coinmnn schools. ■ s. V.V are gratified that the Democrats in Congress have acted in respect to bounties and pensions forsoldics and their families In the spirit of ju , ice and liberality. <l. Cathartic Fills Combine the choicest cathartic principles in medicine, in proportions accurately adjusted to secure activity, certainty, and uniformity of effect. They are the result of years of careful study and practical experiment, and are the most effectual remedy yet discovered for diseases caused by derangement of the stomach, liver, and bowels, which require prompt and effectual treatment. Ayer’s Pills are specially applicable to this class of diseases. They act directly on the digestive and assimilative processes, and restore regular healthy action. Their extensive use by physicians in their practice, and by all civilized nations, is one of the many proofs of their value as a safe, sure, and perfectly reliable purgative medicine. Being compounded of the concentrated virtues of purely vegetable substances, they are positively free from calomel or any injurious properties, and can be administered to children with perfect safety. Ayer’s Pills are an effectual cure for Constipation or Costiveness, Indigestion, Dyspepsia, Loss of Appetite, Foul Stomach and Breath, Dizziness, Headache, Loss of Memory* Numbness, Biliousness, Jaundice, Rheumatism, Eruptions and Skin Diseases, Dropsy, Tumors, Worms, Neuralgia, Colic, Gripes, Diarrhoea, Dysentery, Gonu Piles, Disorders or the Liver, and all other diseases resulting from a disordered state of the digestive apparatus. As a Dinner Pill they have no equal. While gentle in their action, these PILLS are the most thorough and searching cathartic that can be employed, and never give pain unless the bowels are inflamed, and then their influence is healing. They stimulate the appetite and digestive organs: they operate to purify and enrich the blood, and impart renewed health and vigor to the whole system. Prepared by Dr. J. C.
