Doc. Wirt, Dentist, is in town. Ladies will find elegant writing materials at the post office. The Presbyterian social will be held at the residence of John Purcupile next Wednesday afternoon. Kalph Fendig purchased a bankrupt stock of goods at less than cost and is selling them for a song. Try him. Mucilage at the post office, pens by the gross, pencils by the dozen, letter paper bv the ream, envelopes by the thousand. Persons in want of standard fruit and ornamental trees, shrubbery, etc., will do best by purchasing at the Rensselaer Nursery. The Republican tenders a very complimentary(?)j dose of Bitters to “those of-the female nersuasion” who regard his flings as uncalled for, in bad taste, and senseless. The venerable wife of Mr. David Gray, of Hanging Grove township, departed this life on Friday last. The heartfelt sympathies of all who knew her, go out to the bereaved family. The jury in the cause of the Town of Monticello vs. Jos. C. Wilson and his bondsmen, on Thursday morning returned a verdict of $13,400 against the defendants, A motion for a new trial will be argued next Thursday.
The Eagle copying pencil is not an indelible marker for linen, as has been recommended, but it is an excellent crayon for memorandum use. It is a true copying pencil. For sale at retail at wholesale price at the postoffice, Do not buy a pocket-bcok without looking at the new stock at the postoffice. Go to the post office for all kinds of writing materials—paper, pens, inks, pencils, ink-stands, erasers, scratch-books, etc., etc. Mrs. Lizzie H, Chilcotd has just re 7 ceived a fine assortment of “Street Hats,” latest style. Call and see them, at Fendig’s store. Miss Patton will be there to wait on you. Time to Transplant Trees.— lt is usually done during the month of April, but maybe done any time after the frost is out and ground settled; and the place to get the trees is at the Rensselaer Nursery. Don’t fall to go to C. C Starr’s new store for anything you want in the Grocery or Queensware line, and examine his goods and prices before making your purchases. Standard goods and low prices, for cash, is his motto.
Business men will find at the post office pocket memorandums, figuring pads, seratch books, pocket ledgers, pens, pen-holders, legal cap, letter and note papers, also cheap manilla envelopes, sizes No. 6 and No. 10. — Good goods and cheap. Miss Maria Patton has returned from-her visit with friends and relatives in Toledo, Ohio, and hasstaken her old place in the milliner shop now owned by Mrs. Lizzie H. Chilcote, at Ralph Fendig’s store, where her old friends can always find her.
A young lady of culture, taste, discrimination, and practical turn of mind, who lives in another State, writes to a friend: “Please send me by mail a package of the elegant note paper and envelopes which I see advertised in the Rensselaer newspapers as being kept for sale a: the postoffice stationery depot. I prefer to use the best materials for my correspondence," Should the reader of this paragraph want a good, neat, well-made pocket knife—a really merritorious article, worth $1,25, $1,50, $1,75 or $2,00, such may be bouget at the post office. No cheap goods in this line kept there. Three and four blades, with handles of pearl, ivory and buck horn. The world-renowned Wostenholmerasers single blade and polishing handle, for the use ol clerks, book-keepers and accountants, only $1 each.
