Gentlemen: —ln behalf of the citizens of Delphi and Carroll county it affords me pleasure to acknowledge the receipt of your favor of yesterday. A calf less than two years old weighing 1,700 pounds will contribute much to the substantial part of the feast to be given here September 4th next, in celebrating the completion of the iron bands henceforth to bind together your city and ours. We shall appoint a committee, of which Col. YeomaD will be chtirman, to visit your city, receive the calf, your generous contribution, and confer upon him the distinguished honor of being the first four-legged calf transported over the 1., D. & C. Railroad from Rensselaer to Delphi. Upon his arrival here we shall further distinguish him by escorting him, with music, properly decorated, through the main streets of our city. This ceremony will occur upon the arrival of the train from your city at 4:30, Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1879. You, as donors, and your citizens generally, are invited to be present upon the occasion. The whereabouts of the 1., D. &. C. Railroad here, for a long time, has been very uncertain; but now the prodigal son has returned* 1 to his home, and it is eminently fitting that your happy conception of killing the fatted calf in honor thereof, shall be put in execution; we shall proceed to do this, and cordially invite both you and your fellow citizens to join us iu the feast. I am, gentlemen, with great respect, your most grateful servant, J. T. Richardson, Chairmau Com, Gen. Arrangements.
