The republican members of the Maine Legislature recently assisted in the election of a Democratic Governor for that State. On Tuesday last Mr. Voorhees made a powerful speech in the United States Senate in advocacy of the trade dollar as legal tender for all debts. The Legislature of Indiana organ ized at Indianapolis, yesterday. Our old friend, D.D. Dale, Esq., of Monti cello, we are gratified to note, was elected Secretary of the Senate.

The labor and time reqiured on the Bar Docket and Delinquent List must be our excuse for to-day. On Frfday evening of' last week Mr. Alma Burns, of Barkley township, this county, received a kick from a horse he was leading to water, and death resulted soon after. Albert Bissenden, employed by F. L. Cotton in shelling corn', hud ills right hand drawn into the machine and so badly mangled as to render amputation necessary. Dr. Loughildgo performed the operation. The Wabasn Circuit Court, it is said, has made a decision which renders null and void the law providing for the punishment of bigamy. The decision is to the effect that, the second was no marriage at all, and that the defendant could not be convicted of ths crime of having two wives. By an Act of the General Aseembly the Tax Duplicate is divided into twe installments: The first, including Road Tax, must bs paid by the third Monday in April, or the whole will be delinquent and subject to penalties. The second installment on or before the first Monday of November following Ob the third Monday in April. 1879, ten percent, penalty will be added to all delinquencies: and I shall proceed according to law to make collections, if necessary by d’S tress and sale of persona, property. Assessments on rehl estate for the opening and repair of ditches arc due and payable with other taxes. All taxes due from the payee of any county order must be paid before any such order will be redeemed. Bqng your road receipts with you when you come to pay your first instalment, as receipts cannot be taken after the annual settlement in June. It is the duty of tax-payers to call for the property on which they wish to pay. and see that they have separate receipts for each township or town; also, before leaving the office see that they are correct. Tax-pavers will find it greatly to their advantage to call early and avoid mistakes incident to the ~sh of business of the last few days; pnd those that have their tax complicated, such as undivided estates, are especially requested to call when we are at leisure, us considerable time is required to make the division and separate receipts. After the 15th day of December, 18*8. the auditor iArequired by law to advertise real estate for all unpaid taxes for 1877 and former years, to which will be added the taxes of 1878; which sale shall occur on the second Monday in February, 1879, unless paid by that time. All persons owing delinquent taxes are hereby notified to aetie them speedily, as the treasurer is required by law to force collections by distress and sale of personal property if not p*id.
