The South Carolina “horrors correspondent of the New York Tribune (J. (Jr.) worked himself into a fit of magmili ent indignation over the tert origin exercised to prevent % college president, originally from the north, from casting his ballot according to his convictions. The college president having examined himself in the light of au outrage, begs space in the Tribune to say: “I eannot conceive hoA’ “a paragraph of the same length vo'd “bo written containing more misstatements and false coloring than “the one in question.” Not one true or fair statement is contained in the paragraph. He adds, as his testimony is worth listening to: ‘ J have been a Republican at the North ever since the partv was organized, and am so still. But I can't say lam willing to claim pohij. <-al fraternity with the most claiming to be such whom I have met in South Carolina. True, I voted for Wade Hampton at the late election without Waiting to ride to the polls ‘in a wagPit provided by the Democrats to bring in aged and infirm voters.’ I h ive never been bulldozed into any change of political opinion. The Republican press and speakers assume a comical indignation anent the “intimidation” of voters in the South, but remain persistently blind to the numerous instances of intimidation in the North. In all parts of the country e nployers have endeavored, and in many instances successfully. to compel their workmen to vole the Republican ticket, and have made such obedience a condition upon which employment could be retained. One of the many evidences o( this is found in the following circular. issued by the management of the Howe Sewing Machine Company: Rochester, N. Y., Nov. 3, 1878. To the Rutland Office: We wish you to disvhitige any of your subor dluntes who vote the. Democratic ticket We believe that the success of the Democratic party will be the ruin of our country and business, and will not support any one who will not s’and by us in this. This is a struggle between the intel.igent and respecta ble portion of the community and the ignorant and loughs and rowdies of the cities. Mr. Stockwell fully concurs with me in the above. Geo. R. Pettibone. Write to all your agents to the above effect and what we wish. Geo. R. Pettibone. As this was Republican intimidation. Blaine and his school of patriots are unable to detect- the enormity of the offense.
The Republican Senators who took so little interest in heloing throngb Ui<* Senate Mr. Blaine’s resolution for inquiry into alleged election outrages, made further expression of indifference yesterday by exhibiting disinclination to act upon the Committee, and the spe.-taele of the member from Maim- hurrying from desk to desk urging one and another to serve is sui l Io Lave been relished by the gray haired veterans who have been dumbfounded at his audacity in introducing such a resolution without having submitted it to caueiH. But then Mr. Blaine is a candidate for 1880. The Committee was secured, however, before adjournment. Manifestly it does not contain such Republicans as Mr. Blaine would have been pleased to see upon it. In experience and ability they are oulweighted bv the Democratic members,--New York Sun.

A pleasant lit'ie anecdote of the Crown Prince of Germany is told by Mrs. H ooper. It was at the beginning of the Franco Prussian war that the king ahd prince passed through Homburg on tl.elr. way to the Held. A young American girl, staying with her (tarents at one of the hote's, hung a lurge Amctiean flag from her balco uy. and as the royal couple passed waved an enthusiastic handkerchief. The King an his son looked up and bowed, and, like thv courteous gentleman he is. the prince summoned an aide-de-camp and gave an order which was passed down the line—an order for each regiment as it went by to salute the Stars and Stripes.
