A Wonderful Flower.

The venerable Thurlow Weed, on Wednesday week gathered some news paper reporters at his palatial mansion to witness th ■ blooming of one cf the rarest flowers in rhe world, the Flower,'or Spiritus Sanctus, of Brazil. The flower is rare, even in its native land. The stalk is about forty inchesln height, with a leaf like that of a tuberose. On the top of the one at Mr. Weed’s home are four of the flowers, the lowest of which is in full bloom, the three others in bud. The flower in bloom is small and of the exquisite cream color. Its perfume is delicate. 1+ is similar in shape and size to a Madeira nut opened but still joined. One-half of the flower remains upright, and the other half lies down exactly at right angles to its mate, exposing in the erect part a most dainty floral grotto, in which rests, apparently upon a perch, a pptal shaped like a dove about to fly, with outstretched head and extended wings. The dove is cream white, with the exception of the upper extremities of the wings, which are beautifully speckled. The perfection and life like appearance of the dove are incredible to persons who have not seen the flower.

The iron bands of the “Narrow Gauge” has drawn closer together, in social and business relations, the beautiful sister towns, Rensselaer and Monticello, and the counties of Jasper and White. Recognizing this fact the wide-awake business men of our neighboring town will take advantage of rhe situation, and invite the trade which convenience and interest may throw in ther way.
