Railway Punishments and Rewards. It cost engineer Charlie Thompson, of the C., L. & 0., about $65 to light his pipe the other day. He burned up an order which he should have saved, and was suspended fifteen days in consequence. Sam Quaeo, engineer of engine No. 98 on the Wabash road, got a suspension of ten days for sleeping just twenty-five minutes, which amounts to about SSO on an engineer’s time. Pretty dear sleep. We couldn’t afford many siestas at that price. The Pennsylvania company treats its employes who are disabled by accident or sickness while in service with great generosity, kindness aDd benevolence. A passenger conductor, who ran a train on the Fort Wayne road for eighteen years, has become paralyzed from the incessant jarring of the cars. Six months ago he was obliged to put on a substitute for the first time in eighteen years. Since then he has not left his house, and yet the company carries him on its pay-roll the same as if he was on duty daily. —lndianapolis Journal.
