Can’t See It.

In the Rensselaer Union of August Bth, at the head of the editorial column, appear the following questions: “Will Hon. Uoorge Major, candidate for state senator for the 24th district, please say whether, in case he is elected to the general assembly, he will vote for Hon. Daniel W. Yoorhees for United States senator? .“Will Hon. George H. Brown, candidate for representative for the 45th district, please say whether, in case he is elected to the general assembly, he will vote for Hon. Daniel W. Voorhees for United States senator? “This is an important question, and a specific answer is desired fro n each of the gentlemen interrogated.” Then iu the second column the following “specific” answer is given, by the editor, to the above interrogatories : Major or Brown is a' vote to elect Mr. Yoorhees United States senator,” Now why should the Union ask “specific” questiono about what it seems to be already fully informed? Or will the Union editors, or any one of them, vote for Major and Brown, or either of them, sis these questions are specifically answered? People over this way had supposed that the Union intended to support the ticket at the head of its columns, and was already pledged to Messrs. Wimer and Chiicote, aad we can’t see what possible interest it can have in any answer that might be given to its questions. CARPENTER. Ralph Fendig is agent for the justly celebrated Howe Sewing Machine. He invites all who intend procuring a machine to examine these before making a purchase. A wager of a quart of soft soap has been entered into by Hon. Anson Wolcott and R. Hughes, Esq., as to the relative weight of Skinner, greenback candidate for congress and the last named, Mr. Wolcott claiming thai Skinner weighs 70 pounds more than Hughes. The dispute will be settled next Wednesday.—Montieello Herald.
