Fitz John Porter’s Case.
Gen. Dope says, iu a private letter, that he thinks that the Fitz John Porter inquiry, recently ordered, is only just to Gen. Porter, and that he sho’d be allowed to have the action of the conrt-martial examined in the light of the netv evidence which he expects to present. Gen. Pope says that he urged Gen. Grant, three years ago, to permit the inquiry, with a view to a revision of the sentence of the court; and, iioyv that the investigation has been ordered, it will be a question of grave importance to learn whether the court martial or Gen.
