Fendig has moved into the large and capacious rooms recently occuped by Charley Starr, and has filled them to overflowing with new and select goods which he offers at prices that defy competition. The wife of F, W. Babcock, Esq., departed this life Tuesday last, after a protracted illness. Jimmy Meehan is prepared to furnish first quality Oysters by the dish or can. Try them. Harry P. Owens, Esq., of the lawfirm of Matlock & Owens, and Dan. McCuaig, of Monticello, gave gs a short call. Monday. Several teams, with necessary and appropriate “tackling,” arrived here Tuesday eveningenroute to their jobs on the “Narrow Gauge.” Judge Hammond is holding court at Peru. M. F. Chiicote, Esq., will preside and finish up the remaining business in our court, to-morrow, in caso Judge H. cannot be on hand. A large supply of handsome and substantially-made Trunks, at Fendig’s. For travel on the “Narrow,” or any other gauge, they are just the thing.
On last Saturday, on motion of M. L. Spitler, Esq., Elza Phillips was admit*ed to the practice of the law. — We wish Elza success in his professional career. Wm. M. Barkley started for Nebraska, Tuesday morning, in response to a telegram announcing the severe illness of his daughter, Mrs. £Kate Hall. Bro. James has purchased the interest of Mr. Cissel in the Union office, and is now the sole proprietor of that establishment. We regret the withdrawal of Mr. C., but are pleased to know that Mr. J. continues his connection.
