The Remington Fair will commence one week from next Tuesday. John and James Benson were in town Tuesday. James gave us a call. John G. Culp called in to see us Saturday. C. P. Hopkins is painting the Union School House, in this township. Work has commenced on Rhodes’ new building. Clerk Price went to Monticello yesterday and retired the same day. Holldridge- Clark is deputy treasurer of Jasper county. Miss Myra Price was at the “hub” of Jasper on yesterday. Prof. Allen, Superintendent elect of the Rensselaer Schools, is in town. Father Bumgardner will please accept our thanks for nice mess of fish presented us.
The family of Ira W. Yeoman Esq., are visiting friends in Newton township. R. 11. Purcupile has rsHred from the Tobacco and Cigar business, having sold his stock to C. C. Starr. Thomas Boroughs and wife were rusticating in Keener township on last, Saturday aud Sunday. It is a sweet little girl, and’was born on the 13th inst. M. L. Spitler is the lucky man, and feels happy. Dr. Robert Y. Martin has moved into his fine new residence on River Street.

It will appear next week. D. B. Miller, Esq., has been appoint* efl agent for the Franklin Fire lusurrance Company. Card will appear next week. A barn, belonging to John G. Culp, in Barkley township, was destroyed by fire on Monday. The cause is not known. Insured. Elza Phillips and Lyman Zea drove over to Goodland, Wednesday, behind a spanking team belonging to the Lester Bros. The new goods just opened out at Leopold’s arc nicely arranged and make a tine display. Call in and see them. Mrs. Wm. lines and her son, John, of Monticello, arrived in Rensselaer Wednesday. John passed a few moments in the Sentinel office. Mi’s. Jno. Purcupile and sister, Mrs. Crouch, of Monticello, bid adieu to Rensselaer and deported for their home Wednesday. The rains which have fallen recently have resulted in great good to the growing crops, and farmers are happy-
The wife of James Randall died at her residence, in Barkley township; on Tuesday, the 18th Inst., and was buried the next day. On Wednesday of while engaged in mowing, in Gillam township, George Byers killed one old and sixteen young rattlesnakes. And on Friday evening, Berry Paris, in this township, killed one old and twelve young snakes, of the same species. Whom It May Concern.
