The jury in the case of the state vs James Richards, which retired at noon yeetterday returned aver diet at 8 o'clock this morning, after being out twenty hours, finding the defendant guiltv of petit laroeny Richards was charged with stealing quite a quantity of pork meat from the smoke house at the home of Mrs Mary Gould, three years ago Richards is a nephew of Fred Rich •rds, who was recently paroled from a life sentence at Michigan City, Mrs. Blazer and her son, Fred, who were the principal wit nesaes against Jim, are daughter and grandson of Fred Richards Young Fred testified that he was with Jim and helped him carry the meat home. It seems to have been a kind of family racket The jury s verdict means a sentence of one to three years at Michigan f'ity, unless a new trial is granted, which will be asked by the de fendant. The event »»i I given especially for the Young Ma i irons club, although a number of other guests were included, about forty in all An advertisement guessing contest was a form of amusement which proved enjoy able. Seven ladies guessed all but three of the advertisements correct ly and were asked to "draw cuts" for the prizi.
