This he took to the ■ Farmers’ and Merchants' bank at I Bryant where it was changed to I larger coin This and the fact that Ihe disappeared at once turned I suspicion toward him. On .lanu ■ ary 2nd he went to Decatur, in ■ company with hie uncle, Ed Ray, lof Berne,, Thinking it was neoes I sary to come tc this city to cause I his arrest. Ray paid the young [ man’s board in that city and came | here to procure a warrant. The | young man was too wise to be caught in this sort of a trap how I ever, and when the northbound I f-r.n came along he was on board with a ticket for as far north as his money would carry him. The money took Harris to within thirty miles of where he was arrested. It was shortly after he reached there that he made the mistake : that led to his arrest. He wrote to a brother at Bryant to [send him I his clothes, aud thus knowledge lof his whereabouts [came to the I officers, and Sheriff Birr [went to ! Michigan. At Ludington the I officer hired a horse and sleigh *nl after a drive of about thirty mil •?, found his man He was I found engaged in hauling logs. He seemed rather surprised ti the sheriff in that country, but offered not the least resistance and willingly accompanied the officer back to Inidana He ail nutted the theft of the money, but did not attempt to explain why he took it. Monday morning he waa arraigned iu the circuit court before Judge Lafollette, I where he entered a plea of guilty, and was sentenced bran indeter I minate period of from one to three years in the Jefferonville reform story. ~ COLD SNAP ftot f« Severe as Predicted But Change is Noticeable.
