Orville McLaughlin returned this morning from Portland, where he was visiting relatives. John Jams, of Janesville, Ohio, is in the city, a guest of Mrs. Mary Steele on Winchester street. F V. Mills and daughter, Marguerite, went to Fort Wayne this morning to a few days with friends. Mrs. Fred Housey returned to Detroit thia morning, after spending a few weeks here with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Ward. The Queen Esther Band will serve icecream on the Methodist parsonage lawn thi- evening. The Mandolin club will furnish music, and a pleasant time is promised The windows of the several empty buildings about town have been filled with advertising matter for the Drake Stock company, which Jopen an engagement here Munday, August 28. When the Elks go to Decatur to institute a new lodge at that place, all will be dressed alike The uniform will consist of a black suit, white overgaiters, white cap with purple band and a cane with the lodge co’ors. —B’uffton Banner.

Misses Amelia Webber and Letta Fullenkamp are guests of Mr and Mrs. Charles Sullivan at Berne. Mrs A. A Butler returned todav from Fort Wayne, where she was visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Butler. Mr. and Mrs A R. Bell returned home from Oden. Michigan this morning, after several weeks' outing at their cottage. Miss Violet Whittem of Monroeville, and Misses Elsie May of Con • voy, Ohio, are in the city, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Green George W. Beers of Fort Wayne, was in the city today. He is the gentleman who installed the Citieens Telephone company plant m this city. Dr. L. H- Zeigler, has received a veternary license from the state duly signed and permitting him 11 do business. The issuance of the license proves the djctor's ability. The reports from the bedside of Mrs. J. Q. Neptune today are encouraging. She is recovering nicely from the operation, and it is believed a few weeks will find her in good health. The Peterson Methodist Sunday school will attend the Monroe picnic Saturday, and they desire Preble and Peterson people to join them. Meet at the Peterson school house at eight o’clock. Be on time. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smalley. Miss Goldie Strickler, Mrs. Nancy Ross, Miss Jane Strickler, Jaooh Roop, Leonard Troutner and George Strickler went to Clayjiool this morning to attend a camp meeting. Last evening at her home on Fifth street, Miss Frances Bryson delightfully entertained a number of her ladv and gentleman friends in honor of Miss Neomi Gregg of Kokomo, The evening was spent in dancing, games and strolling, and a tine time was had. Refreshments ware served at a late hour, after which the guests departed, voting Miss Frances a charming hostess.

Del Locke was called to Fort Wayne this morning to assist in holding a post mortem examination : over the body of his brother-in-law Gene Troute, of Auburn, who diet ’ in the Hope hospital in Fort Wayne last night after a ten days illness. The cause of bis death is not kniwn. Mr. Troute was well known to many friends in this city, his two children are also well known, as they resided with the Locke family here last winter, while tbeir father spent the winter in the west The two children are left to mourn the death of the father, the mother being deceased —Bluffton Banner. Between Lebanon and Frankfort ball teams exist a long standing feud in comparison with which, the little fuss raised by the Decatur fans to excuse their boys from playing with Bluffton is of no oonparison. It is said that matters have come to such a pass thbt neither team will attempt to play the other. Both Frankfort and Lebanon have now played games in this city and in each case the plsvers showed themselves to be perfect gentlemen.—Bluffton Banner.
