H Plessinger, exalted ruler of the Elks lodge, received a telegram Saturday from District Deputy Donahue, in which he said that September 6th was a satisfactory datt for instituting the new lodge at Decatt” - and he fixed that date definitely as the time JBluffton will go to Decatur. W. W. Weisel', sr., has received 'word from A. G McCorkle, of I Lordstown, a member of the trans- • portation committee, stating that in all probability there would be no excursion this year of the Ohio and Indiana old settlers. The Erie had refused them special low rates and other roaos w.U not accede to the wishes of the committee. Mr. Weisel states that the running of the excursion is very doubtful and people have given up all hope of coming to Indiana this year. If anything should occur so that the I excusion would be run, due notice I will be given the public through the p-ess—Bluffton News. A smooth stranger worked a slick game on a liveryman in a neighboring city a few days ago. The fellow walked into the barn and asked the liveryman if he would take 1150 for a certain rig, and as a surety that he would return the outfit at the end of the week. The liveryman replied that he would, and after depositing the money, the stranger drove away. At the end of the week the man returned, received his *l5O and started to walk away. "Held on stranger, haven’t you forgot something? Yon owe me horse hire for the week.’’ ‘‘Horse hire nothing," the stranger replied. ‘‘l bought that rig for *l5O. 1 don’t have to pay for the use of my own rig, do 1?"

The relatives of Mr. Cramer are now making an effort to send him to the Fletcher private asylum at Indiana polls.
