H HELLER, MANAGER There is a growing impression in democratic circle* that an organized effort will be made to obtain the democratic presidential nomination in 190 b for John W. Kern, of Indianapolis. The speech made by Cl*t Metsker before the democratic editors of Indiana recently, booming Mr. Kern, is not considered a chance expression. It is believed that it was intended to “start the ball rolling.” Mr Metsker a speech has been quoted far and wide and commented on copiously—Louis Ludlow, Washington correspondent, Star Leatue Committee Meeting. The Democratic City Committtee will please meet me at my office in the Mei tiers block, at 7:30 next Tuesday evening Business of important?. The democrats gener- 1 ally will be welcome at this meet ! ing Calvin Miller, Chairman PITCtrTHEIR TENT The Show Seen at the Clover Leaf Ground Such were Perfected Today by J. B. Stowe of the Show Company.
J. B. Stowe, the twent-fou- hocman of the .Sells-Forepaugh circus was in the city today and- closed all contracts pertaining to the show here tomorrow. The hardest task in all probability that Mr. Stowe had was in the selection of the grounds, and the matter was not fully determined upon until today. But after a careful scrutiny of the entire ground under advisement Mr. Stowe decided upon the Clover Leaf grounds, and at this plaoe the show will pitch its tents tomorrow. The only objectional feature that Mr Stowe bad on the Steele ground was the long d-ive and the river bridge that would have to be contended with while transferring the heavy show property back and forth. The show will ainve over the Clover Leaf from Delphos, Ohio, about 4:30 o’clock tomoirow morning, and the un loadnig process will take place about 5:00. Since I have sold out my business it becomes necessary that all outstanding accounts be collected at once. All those knowing themselves indebted please call and arrange your account. Respectfully, Gus Rosenthal.

1 RISE EARLY Big Circus to be Here in the Early Morn I The Street Parade Leaves the Show Ground at Naif Past Ten and will be Great. He who makes it a point to be cn hand when a big circus comes to town will have to get np early tomorrow morning, for the first of the Forepaugh-Sells show trains, of which there are fosr. is dne to arrive here by 4 '3O The other three sections will roll into the city abont half an hour apart, and will be (immediately unloaded and their contents transferred to the show grounds. To many people, both old and youug. the scenes at the unloading point constitute a big portion of the diy’s sight-seeing, and fun, and there will be a big reception committee of kids, and many of the older kids too. on hand in the Clover Leaf yards early tomorrow to greet the elephants when they leave their nar (row slejping quarters on the big. ’ yellow show oars. The ForepaughSellß is at Delphos today, exhibit ing to an immense throng of people, and reports which reach here are to the effect that the street parade which took place there this morn ing was the finest, longest and probably the most lavish affair of I its kind ever seen It will be repeated in Decatur tomorrow morning leaving the show grounds at 10:30 ’oclock sharp. The weather man did not promise much today byway of sunny skies on circus lay, but the big show will come ! just the same, give its great street parade, a free exhibition in front of the big tents after it retuins to the grounis. two complete perform ances, afternoon and evening under strictly rainproof teats and move ( quietly away in the darkness of Saturday night to arise in another city, many miles away, for a day of rest Os the meiits of the great circus which comes tomorrow, so much has been printed that little need be added here. There are. however, a few special features, amongst the hundreds of new and novel things, that require more than pissing mention. Circus goers have se-n elephants yearly for decades, but the triumph of triumphs in animal importing was scored when recently the owners of the Forepaugh Sells brought to America the two gigantic, gianttusked, long-eared African war elephants, “Kongo” and “Zeffa.’ I These two ponderous beasts were brought from Calcutta. India, the chief members of an entire ship-load of wild beasts consigned to the Fonpaugt Sells. The great paohydems have immen s tu«ks of p ire white ivery five feet long, and big fan-like ears four and one-half feet in diameter, which lay down over ; the bulging sides of the animals lie huge blankets. ‘ Kongo” and “Z ffa" are called the “Imbecile Elephants” liecause they are to b?
found to lie mentally weak ami cannot be taught even the simplest tricks. They were captured less than a year ago in a region lying between the Victoria and Albert Lakes, in South Africa, and are the | most monstrous elephants brought to American shores since the days of the lamented “Jumbo." A great feature of the circus proper is the great Tally Ho-Derby act, performed by the peerless eight O Brains, famous whirlwind barehack riders, (four ladies and four gentlemen ) The party tn a l>eautiful brake lie hind four snow-white horse*, and dressed as though for a day at the races, go through a most startling equestrian performance, mounting and dismountingg in all sorts of freak ways, and winding up in a whirlwind ridins scene with five performers on nne st?ea Newness and novelty abound every where in the Forepaugh Sells this year, anil atl the actors are new to American audiences, having, for the most part, lieen imported from Europe The doors of the afternoon performance will be open at one o'clock, and fur the evening show at seven. The show logins an hour later THE ELKS . A Local Lodge of the Order Assured The Bluffton Lodge will be the Whole Show and Nave Charge of the Ceremonies. That Dacatur is now to have au i Elks lodge is an assured fact, as on last evening the B.uffton lodge passed on the list of membership, and the same passed from top to bottom without a hitch Tom Haetling, who has been so instrumental in the organization of this lodge, accompanied by Pat Hyland, .drove to Bluffton yesterday and were present at the meeting. The committee on investigation had already passed favorably on the list and the lodge voted it in without a murmur. The time of insti tuting the same was then taken up, and the Bluffton lodge suggest ed August 24th. Unless the Grand Exalted Ruler. Brown would set an earlier date, which was requested | of him by letter last evening, and that he answer by telegraph what date he would fix. The members of the looal order will meet next Monday evening and appoint the different committees, and get ready for the grand occasion. The Bluffton team will do thejwork and from all present indications six members out of the list of fifty-two will be given the work. All parties interested in the James Ogden (Borum’s Run) ditch and its branches, please report at this office Wednesday, August 18. 1905, to have bearing no assessments fur repair of above named ditch.
