Order early and avoid the rush. The tip ha* come to the anti Cromeri v ’c in Adams oonnty that Horace C. Stillwell, the traction line magnate of Anderson, will oppose Congressman ('rotter in his ambition to succeed himself, as the representative in congress from the eighth congressional district. With the tip also came assurances that Mr. Stillwell is a four time winner, and this was the year the trick would be turned The news was good news to those here who would relish the fates that would lay up high and dry, the political fortunes of G. NO MORE White’s Case on the Way to Goshen It Was One of the Best and Most Popular Places In the City..
White s case so far as this city is concerned is a thing of the past, and the boys who have leen going to that place for their midnight luncheon will be forced to seek new quarters during the coming months. Mr. White has all his furniture packed and today the draymen are busily engaged in moving it to the care and storing it away, from where it will be shtpjied to Goshen, Ind., where he expects to open up a similar place of business. As we stated a short time ago in our columns, this action on Mr. White's ;>art is not because he did not like this city, but for the simple reason the city was unable to support a place of thio kind Mr. White does not claim to hare lost money, neither does he boast of taking away thousands of dollars, but his one object in view is that he wants to get into a large city where a place of his kind is in demand. During his stay of a year here he has made a host of friends, and as a business man in his line he has no equal. His place of business was always clean and attractive, and his back counters and show windows were always filled with dainties that would make the passersby hungry. He is well versed in this line and set out nothing but the lest that money oonld buy, as he never spared expense to please bis customers, and if a person ate there he would return again. Tnere is no doubt but that his place of business will be sadly missed here, as it was open day and night, and something the city needed. But as Mr. White knows his own business best, and we are forced to accept the situation and extend to him our best ;wisbee for success at hie new home. It is said that it has completely left for parts unknown and that not the slightest, trace of it can be found J. F. Lachot who on the first of next year will succeed J. H. Vogle wade as treasurer of Adams county, will soon become a citizen of this city, aud will occupy the M V. B Archbold property on Fifth street, where Jacob Kai ver nowYives. Kansas demands every summer 20,000 helpers for the harvest fields She is not the only state that needs summer help North Carolina needs 60.000, and Lou isiana could use fully 100,000, Crops go to waste in these and other states because of lack of help to gather them. Yet foreign immigration sticks in the cities. Just as the world has adapted itself to the doctor's injunction to drink coupicusly of water, now comes the latest Medical Record with the alarming statement that water increases the supply of nitrogen, and this, in turn call see to much stimulation of “proteid catabolism.” This may not be as bad ss it sounds, but we confess to a feeling of uneasiness. Manager Bosse informed us today that he bad just closed a contratt with the "Holy City” company to show in this city in the near future, the exact date not being given. This is one of the best companies on the road ami give more than satisfaction wherever they go. Wav h the billboards for the date and don't fail to attend this great performance. The interchangeable mileage books in use on the traction lines of Ohio, have been adopted bv the Indiana Union Traction Company, of Indiana. This is the first traction road in Ir • piana to adopt the mileage book*, but others, including the Indianapolis A Eastern and the Richmond Stre-t and Interurban Railway company are considering the advisability of entering into the agreement, and will probably do S 3. A man in a neighboring town who secured his wife through a matrimonial agenoy is trying to secure a divorce. Just another instance of finding that male order bargains are not just as represented and that a much bettor grade of the same article could have been obtained at home. Good enough for him: he should have patronized home industry. The home grown is usually the best. LIFE BUOY AND OAR. How to (let Into tbr One nnd tn *npport toarwlf With the Other. Very few persons know how to get into a life buoy, and, as in this uncertain world one never knows when one may need to make use of a buoy in real earnest, a little practice might prove of great value in an emergency. Now, when the buoy Is thrown into the water the temptation is to try to lift it over one’s head and shoulders or to dive through it. This, however, is Impossible. The correct thing is to grasp the two sid'-s of the buoy, with fingers of the ba .ids uppermost, lower yourself tinder tie buoy and come up through tlie -enter, then rest your arms ui>on the sides, aud you will be comfortably supported as long as it is necessary. More often than otherwise. In case of accident, a life buoy Is not nt hand. In sm-h event an oar may be used as a substitute. Now. there is some little art in saving oneself by this means, for an average sized scull is not buoyant enough to support ■ person if grasped as the first impulse would direct. There Is only one way In which the oar will support a human being. It must be ridden like a bobby horse. The haft Is put between the legs aud the blade allowed to project above the surface of the witter in front of one. By this means the head Is kept well above the water.—Pearson's Magazine. A I’nr.le.
