Mrs. Hertha Baxter went to Fort Wayne this morning to visit rela lives.’ Mrs. J. H. Hall returned last evening from Tiltin, Ohio, where she was attending her father's funeral. Mrs. Veronica Smith and daughter. Maggie, went to Fort Wayne this morning, to attend the Orphans' Home fair. Dr. J. y. Neptune went to Rome City this morning to join his family, who are spending their summer vacation there. R. J. Holthouse left this morning for Columbus, where he expects to contract with C A E Wolf Bros , for another year as shoe salesman. Miss Alberta Kohne last evening from Fort Wayne, where she has beeu attending school and will spend ‘he summer with her parents. A lielling party drove to the Omlor farm, north of the city, last evening, and for a time made life miserable for the newly married couple. Miss Merle Burdg strained her ankle quite badly while in town last Monday evening. Dr. Collins was called and by Tuesday morning she was able to leave for her home in Decatur —Geneva Herald. Rev. B >ardsley Tuesday evening , was call’d from his downy couch to unite Miss Jessie M Springe- and Jesse W. Berry, of near Peterson, in marriage. Although hardly awake, Rev. Beardsley stated he tied the not good and tight. All members of therfv of P. lodge are requested to be present at the lodge room this (Thursday) evoning as nominations will be in order for new officers. All are candidates and unless you are present you may lose your chance of getting elected. Bluffton defeated the M idel ials of Dunkirk, yesterday, by a score of sto 0. Biersdorfer, who pitohed for Bluffton, had eleven strike outs and allowed Dunkirk , onlv three hits. The score was just the reverse of the day preoeed--1 ing. when the Specials defeated Bluffton 5 to 0.

While here she was a guest of friends. Hhe was accompanied home by Miss Inta Erwin. Miss Miller and Mr. George Gil pen returned to Bittle Creek. Mich, last evening, after a visit in ’he city, as guests of Dr. J M. Mi Iler and family. Miss Franke and Miss Sawyer returned to the Robison farm in Kirkland township today, attending the Niblick-Schrock party last evening. Miss Fanny Hite. Dr and Mrs. Patterson and Misses Naomi and Dorothy Dugan went to Geneva today, to visit Mr. and Mrs. Charles Porter. Mrs. F. M. Schirmeyer and daughter. Irene, and Mrs. Liny Rout went to Van Wert today, where tomorrow they will attend a reception given by Miss Rose L. Dunathan, a teacher in our city schools, whose home is in Van Wert.
March'd Green thia morning received a notice from the officials at Pera to be on the look oat for a horse and buggy that had been stolen at that city on May 27. An accurate description of the man horse and buggy has l>een given and a reward of 1225 has been off ered for the capture of the outfit. The local officers are keeping their weather eyes open. Dr. W. '.V Blackrnaan has just cause to feel proud over a letter received today from Dr. Holland, of the state board of health, in which he informs Dr. Blackman that he leceived the highest grade and ranked first among the forty osteo paths who took the examinations before the state board in May. The showing made is all the better from the fact that the doctor has be«m out of school about three year", while some of the other doctors were fresh from the studies at college.—Bluffton News. Mr. Fred Corey, the young man, who by mistake took an overdose of morphine, Tuesday evening, wishes to say in correction of the report given in yesterday s Demo crat, that his name is not Crabbs, that he has not been taking “regular doses of morphine,” that he is not addicted to the use of the drug, and has only taken it when prescribed by his physician. Dr Thomas. He does not remember of at any time taking more morphine than the amount prescribed, and objects to the statement that "he has of late t*en drinking to excess.” Fred Corey.

MUST HANG Says Supreme Court in Smith CaseGovernor Will Commute Sentence. Special Telegram To The Democrat Inuianapdis, June 22.—The supreme court today decided that Berkeley Smith, the Indianapolis wife mvrderer. shall hang as decreed by the jury. It is practically admitted, however, that Goyt-rnor Hanely will commute his sentence with that of Edward Donahue. The Governor is now prejiaring figures to show that hanging does no good and he will give them at the time he commutes the sentences. Pleasant Mills Mrs. A. N. Acker has been quite sick the past week, but is st id to be slowly improving. Children's exercises will be held at the Pleasant Mills Baptist church next Sunday evening. John Custer’s new house is nearly completed and willfsoon lie ready for occupancy. Mrs G W. Barnett and children left Wednesday for a short visit with relatives at Bluffton. Dr. Vizard is not behind the times, as he is improving his propertv on Main street by having a neat barn erected. Our farmers are well pie ased with the fine growing weather, as the last few days has been extremely warm. The crops are look ing fine. Mrs. S. B Merris entertained at supper last Friday eve ning. Dr. Baardsley. and hsr dmghter, Mrs H. A Fristoe and littli daughter, of Decatur. A large crowd attended the ch ildren's meeting at the M E. church last Sunday evening. Rev. Brown addressed the little folks in his usual pleasant manner. Our town is building up and improvng rapidly, five beautifull dwelling houses, besides out buildings have been erected this spring, and there are several parties negotiating and probably will build this fall, which is verv enoourag ng to the citizens of this place. Mr. and Mrs. Oswalts of Decatur. spent Snnday here with Ste phen Roebuck and family Mr. and Mrs Sylvester Tinkham, who teside about nine miles south of town, entertained at their beautiful country home a numlier of their rellatives and friends from this place last Sunday
