MORE LAW Trani Cotton Gets Another Fine for Assault and Battery. Frank Cotton got another dose of the law last evening before 'Squire Smith, when be plead guilty to an assault and battery charge filed against him by Arthur Berry The alleged transaction took place Friday evening at which time Berry it is stated took Cotton to task concerning his action in trying to tun into a wagon load*' ed with small children, who were ont assisting m celebrating the Terveer Vuglewede wedding Cotton denied the allegation, and Barry, after being urged by some party (track Cotton knocking him down Nearbv parlies separated the contestants and Cotton had Berry arrested on (a charge of asaault and battery, the case however, being dismissed B*rry then had Cotton arrested on the same charge end last evening Cotton plead guilty and was assessed a tine of a dollar and costs, amounting in all to eleven dollars and sixty cents, which he paid, but soon swore to have vengeano**. Jason, who has been at ministerial college at Franklin. Wisconsin, during the past year, tne friends and neight .or* of tbe Hoffman family gath ered at their home with well filled baskets to greet the arrival of their son who was wonderfully sur prised when be arrived home to find the house crowded with friends He imagined the crowd was larger than the one be seen at college on the day before, which numbered over 700. Also what helped to make this a happy day in the Huffman home, it was the 55th birthday of the father, who remarked it was the happiest birthday he ever passed, to think his eon bad am vied from a fam ous college, as is located at Frank lin. June I 0— A hostile float is on its way to attack Washington and it is feared lust before the end of the coming week the city of Baltimore may fall into the enemy's band* This is what will occur if the navy contingent taking j>art m the annual maneuvers game a victory over the army which nndertakn tbs defense of the two cities. The maneuvers are scheduled to begin tomorrow and will continue for one week The defensive force will be limited to the coast artillery The navy will not be allowed to use landing parties. During the ensuing six days the forte established for defense of Washington and Baltimore will take on the apjiearance of actual warfare and everything will be conducted aa though a foreign country was the adversary Major General James F Wade commanding the Atlantic division, will con duel the land operations, while the attacking force will be under the command of Rear Admiral Francis M Dickens The coast defenses of the Chesapeake distnot have been manned by artillery triopv from Fort Wright and Fort Wadsworth, N. Y.; Fort Mott, N. J-; Fort Grebel. R 1.; a"d Fort Banks, Mass The attacking force will comprise th* battleships Texas the monitor* Florida. Nevada and Arkan*as the training ships Hartford and Franklin, besides a number of torpedo boat destroyers.

BASE BALL Decatur Shamrocks Defeat Mokroeville Sun. The Monroeville Stars were detested yesterday afternoon at Steele's park by a score of three Io two by th* r-wcalur Shamrock* in a game that wa* replete with sensational plays by hot- taam*. The Monroeville boys were small fellows who looked like they were nnable to burl a ball acres* the diamond, but m this respect they fooled the audience anu kept the Decatur team guessing, although the home team did loom up much bigger in *iae.
