Munsen, inspector for the Citizens Fire Insurance company, of St. Louis, was a business caller in the city last evening. There will be a meeting of the Reiter encampment this evening at the Odd Fellows' hall at ti.e usual time, and all members are earn estly requested to be present. Verne MeGonagle and family left last evening for Willshire, 0., where they expect to make their future home. Mr. MoGonagle expects to engage in the restaurant business Gus Rosenthal is having his store repaired and repaired today, so as to make room for spring goods that is arriving. When oom pleted it will add materially to the appearance of his business room. Jay County taxpayers are fighting the payment of a 154.000 subsidy voted to the C. B. A- C- railroad. One hundred and two remonstrators have filed such a petition alleging many thing in support of repudiating the debt made. The editor of the New Carlisle Gazette is advocating a reform in the wearing of tight corsets and wants a law enacted by the legislature prohibiting th j evil. Should such a measure become a law, the editor at that place would probably want to be chairman of the invest! gating committee.

George Kern made a business trip to Berne this morning. A. B. Bailey, of Monroe, was a business caller here today. Ed Meyers made a business trip to Fort Wayne this morning. Mr. Humble resides in the west part of the city. Before adjournment last evening the commissioners refunded *l2 in taxes to N. G. Funkhauser, it having been found that this amount was due. Clerk Gerber made his report of fees collected, which was approved. Dr. McO.scar arrived today from Fort Wayne to hold a consultation over the con tition of Charles Dirkson with Dt. D. D. Clark. Mr. Dirkson has been suffering with appendicitis for some time, and is in a serious condition. Eighty members of the local Knights of Pythias order boarded the clover Leaf train nt noon today, enroute for Hartford City, where thev will attend the District meeting. They were a happy crowd and all fully cxjieoted to have a fine time. Louis Wolfe, representing the Aetna and Norwich Union Fire Insurance companies, was at Monroe yesterday and settled the John B. CHANGE OF JUDGE Action Taken In Johnson and Touhey Case Today. Attorney D. E Smith this afternoon tiled a motion for a change of judge in the Ouse against Elmer Johnson and Ed Touhey, assault and battery with intent to kill. The motion was granted, but Judge Erwin has not yet made the appointment. The case will oome up for trial next Monday. L. L. Biumgartner made a visit to Berne today.
