Work was commenced today on the excavation of the new building to be erected by Mell Rice on Third street and will be pushed through to rapid completion.

A. Knobler went to Fort Wayne last evening to attend a meeting of the K. of C. William Conrad and wife, of Preble township, left this city this morning for Crockett Bluffs, Kansas. where they will enjoy a thr>e weeks' visit with their son, Fret’, who has lived there for some time.

White and family. Mrs. Earl Harper returned to Willshire today. While here she was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Al Buhler. Mr. and Mrs. Ertzinger returned to Huntington this morning. While here they were guests of Miss Pearl Breiner. Mrs. Burwell and daughter, Fanny, returned to Bluffton, today, after a visit here with Mrs. George Zimmerman. The Royal Aroh Masons will meet tomorrow evening at seven o’clock. Every member is requeste I to be present. Rev. John C. White went to Foil Wayne this morning to attend the District Conference meeting of the Methdodist church. Mrs. Gehring returned to Huntington this morning, after making a pleasant visit here with her sister, Miss Pearl Breiner. Misses Marie Allison and Ina Snellen returned today from Bluffton where they were attending a party given by Miss Nina Fuozar. Rev. F. Ward, whois representing the orphan's home at Vermillion, Ohio, went to Fort Wayne last evening He is soliciting donations for this home. Tue Uaugnter of Mr. and Mrs. William Davison, who reside in the north part of t ie city, is on the i sick list, suffering with appendioi-' tis. Dr. J. M. Miller is waiting upon her. Mr. and Mrs. Poling entertained a party of friends at a throe course dinner in honor of tho birthday of Otis Poling. The event was a happy one, and the guests are willing to testify to that fact. Mrs. Charles Berry, who has been ill for some time is reported as being some better today. A trained nnrse arrived this morning from Fort Wayne, and will care for her. Dr. J. M. Miller is waiting upon her. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Anderson must have smoothed over any differences they may have had. Anywav Mrs. Anderson called at this office last evening and demanded satisfaction, and an apology in this evening’s piper. The part of tho article ;she objected to most strenuously was that wherein it was stated she had been used as a football. Perhaps the word “punching bag” would have baon more appropriate ,and we therefore make the correction.

Mr. McGonagle iis a thorough business man and during his stay in this city has made a host of friends who wish him the best success imaginable in this new venture. A brakebeam on a freight car on the Clover Leaf broke this morning just west of the city, causing the car to jump the track and delaying traffic for several hours. No further damage was done and the amount will not run high in tbe dollar column.
