Baxter and wife weut to Ft Wayne to visit his parents. Miss Mattie Jeffrey went to Fort Wayne today to visit friends. Jerry Coffee was at Fort Wayne today consulting an eye specialist. S. Roach, of Marion, passed through the city today, eu route to Grund Rapids. The D. D. club will meet with Mrs. Fred Reppert, North Third stnet. this evening, Mrs. Baxter went to Fort Wayne last evening to visit for a few days with relatives. Mrs. Evans returned to Hoagland last evening. While here she was the guest of friends. Rev. McCarthy returned to Hoagland last evening. He was here attending the Sunday School convention. C. L. Rinaar went to Fort Wayne last evening to visit for a few days with his sister, Mrs. W. F. Rosenwinkle. L. T. Brokaw, wife and daughter, and S. F. Bowser and wife left this morning for Ft. Wayne to attend the funeral of Mrs. James Peterson. Miss Rena McGurk, who had been visiting here for several davs with Mr. aud Mrs. W. E. Smith, returned to her home at Fort Wayne last evening. The C. E's. of the Presbyterian church will hold their regular busi- ; ness meeting at 7 o’lclock Friday I evening. All members are requested to be i resent and bring friends. Miss Adelia Kouneman, whoresides north of the city, is confined to her home with a very severe ease of pneui tnonia, and is in a serious condition. Dr. D. D. Clark is wating upon her. F. M. Sehirmeyer was at Ft. Wayne yesterday, attending a meeting of the Northern Indiana telephone companies. The object of the meeting j was for the purpose of getting a better understanding of the exchange rate question, as well as ether matters of interest to these independent concerns.

Mr and Mrs. Charles Hawkins arrived last evening from Ixjgans port, aud to make this their future home. Master Vane Thonqison went to Fort Wayne Inst evening to visit a few days with his mother, Mrs. W. F. Rosenwinkle. Miss Wilds Colchin returned to Fort Wayne last evening. While here she was the guest of her father, John Colchin. The Rathbone Sisters will have a called meeting Friday evening at 7 o’clock, for the purpose of transact ing any business that may come up for consideration. George H. Kelley came in this morning from a ten days trip to Cardwell, Paragould, Jonesboro and surrounding country, where he went as a prospector. He has much of interest to relate about the prospects of the country, the people and the customs. Mrs. Morrison entertained a number of young people last evening at her home on Fourth street, at six o doea luncheon, in honor of Miss Julia Shaw of Cincinnati, Ohio, aid Miss Wise of Kentoa, Ohio. The other out of the city guests present were, Mrs. W. J' Vesey and daughter Margurite, and Mrs. Gutermuth of Ft. Wayne, Ind. A most enjoyable evening was spent.

Mrs. Holmes returned last evening to her home in H >aglan 1, after making a pleasant visit with Mrs. John Phipps. Mrs. Harry Cordua and son returned today from Fort Wayne where they visited Mr. and Mrs. James Girard. Miss Gertrude Blosser will entertain the Entre Nous club and theii lady friends tomorrow evening, in honor of Ma. and Mrs. Fred Blosser. Mrs. Charles Sipe left to-day for Stubensville, Ohio, where she expects to make her future home. While here she was the guest of her parents and sisters. Joe Lose is daily receiving orders 1 by mail for eggs for setting purposes from his famous white leghorn chick-1 ens. Joe says he is unable to fill all j the orders and if the mail continues to bring them he will have to hire a [ private stenographer to answer the same. The C. Y. M. Club held an infor-1 mal dance last evening at their club room in thß new Studabaker Block, a large crowd being in attendance. The music was furnisher! by True and 1 Med. and was fine. These pastimes by this chit) are gaining in prominence and ranks them among the leading enterprises in our city. Farmers were busy in the city today buying supplies and appurtanances f v r opening suga camps. A num ber of camps have been opered and are showing great activity for this time of the year. Usually March 1 sees few camps opened, but from the reports brought in from the country j today, more than half the camps in 1 the county are already opened aud boiling has begun. The outlook is f<r more camps to be operated this season than for years before. Mr. and Mrs. Barney Wemhoff entertained a number of their friends last evening at their home on Fourth street, at a pedro party, and a most enjoyable time was had. The prizes being won by Mrs. U. Deininger and H. H. Bremmerkamp. The names of the booby winners not being obtainable. Refreshments were served, and at a late hour the guests departed, voting Mr. and Mrs. Wemhoff as fine entertainers. Elliott Brothers of Fort Wayne, were in our city yesterday trying to make a deal with Rodenbeck and Bentz proprietors of the Riverside livery barn, but as yet no definite agreement has been reached. The Elliot’s made a proposition to the present, managers, aud will return Saturday, when the deal will no doubt be closed. Messrs Elliot’s have had considerable experience in the livery business and will no doubt make a success of the same here should tley decide to purchase.
