There is a bill pending in the senate togi ve cities the right to sell their public utilities when they get tired of the loosing game of municipal owner ship. The bill was introduced by Senator Powell, of Izigansport. which city owns its own lighting plant. The plant is now ten or twelve years old and has worn out without having earned a surplus for new machinery. It has been losing $20,C00 a year for several yaars, and is in very bad order, being overworked aud entirely insufficient for the city’s needs. Messrs Koeing and Flederjohan promoters of the Springfield & Southern Railway Company, which will complete their lines into Decatur from Fort Wayne, were in Geneva last Thursday contemplating building a southern extentiou to their line They have made a survey paralleling the G. R. & I- Railway as far as Port laud aud have al.-o made their smvey from Decatur through Chattanooga and thence io Cel na. The artistic work was ndoe by Med Miller and is a beauty and a fine specimen of his ability. The Decatur Lumber company is always to the front in their line, and never stand back for expense, when it comes to an nounoing their business to the public. The Adams Co. branch of the Rural Letter Carriers' Association had a meeting here on their holiday, Wash ington's birthday. They held their meeting in the upstairs of the post office building. Os the 26 Adams county carriers, 18 were present, among them Miss McCollouge,,of Ge neva, and Miss Mas? ley of Decatur, the two lady carriers of this county A resolution, not of local interest, was passed, roads, snow drifts, mail boxes and other things were discussed. CHLRCH CONTRACT Niblick & Company to Carpet Monroe's New Church. • Dan Niblick, of the firm of Niblick Co. informed us this morning that ho had secured the contract to furnish carpit for the new Methodist church at Monr<®. and work of putting the same in would be commenced us soon as the carpet would ( arrive from the East. Mr. Niblick went to Monroe yesterday afternoon and met with the committee of ladies, and after cjmidorable , talking over the grade of carpet to be used and how much it would take, secured the contract. The entire ohmch will be carpeted with the best wool ingrain to be had and the isles to be covered with good wool matting to protect the same. This makes six contracts Mr. Niblick has secured in the pist year from churches, and is highly elated over his success, and which spimkes volumes for the hustling ability of the mammoth dry goeds fiirn.
