H<w effeminately sweet. Representative Watts' marriage hill had had the stuffing knocked out of it, and in consequence there of. peace reigns. To add to the gaiety Congress man Hearst and Sullivan engaged in a word encounter, that came near being personal. Bit congress enjoys these interruptions, as it helps them forget their real mission on earth. When it comes to trustees, the Democrat will give the facts and figures—is it always does, tint its readers may know actual Condi- 1 tions. We consider this a better sample of justice to all concerned as well as better journalism, than to stock <>ur columns with a bom hastic effusion that says nothing and is nothing after it is said Dispatches have it that Horace Stillwell, the interurban magnate of Madison county, is to sacrifice himself as an opponent to Congressman Cromer, for the nomination for congress in thisjlistrict. Mr. Stillwell will tie remembered by many from this county, as a contestant for the place at that menu rab'e convention held in this city in I*9B. The Lidles" Sowing society held a very protttable meeting at the home of Mrs. T D Kern in Sr, Mary’s township, on Wednesday of last week. The society is at pres ent in a flourishing condition and comp wed of about fifteen members . who have safely hotbed through then rners clous and rigid initiation, which seems to be a wonder t > all ' thosj outside of the organization There is one thing that we know to be true, and that is it is not a secret society, because we have never yet saw a woman society that existed long on secret principles. The motives of the society ate beyond doubt good, but aomoof I their subjects are simply amazing. We wish the society a life long en dui-anoe. and an abundant increase of members, but we would like to see their record books. Their next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Jesse Swartz, on Thursday February 16, 1905. Lion Grove. Rev. 8. C. Cramer, of near D >catnr, attended the series of lecture* at this place over the Sabbath. The greatest snow fall of the se<. son occurred Sunday and the esti ■ mated depth on Monday morning was from 12 to 14 inches. Mrs. Catherine Eckrote moved her summer kitchen from West Linn Grove to Petroleum l»*t Thursday. The same will be ar ranged for a temporary dwelling. 1 E. D. I would never marry a woman unless she had money. Money is the only compensation for the disappointment of married life. Marriage is a lottery, but worse it is hell. Before marriage a man sw.-ais to love, after mar riage he loves to swear. Man's troubles wi h woman began in the Garden of Elen, and I often wonder if it will ever end. Many a time I told these women before marriage that I would gladly die for them, and now 1 wish I had kept my word. It is no di-grace for a man to make a mistake in marrying Nearly every man that marries doe* that. Don't invest in marriage bonds, unless they can be made to pay Cash dividends.
