UNDER ARREST Serious Charge Against Jacob Closs Jr. Asked to Produce Watch Given Kim Io Rcpal' a Year Cue Continued. Jacob Uloss, jr., formerly engaged in the jewelry business in this city, was arrested this morning by Marshal Green on a charge of embenling a gold watch valued at <4O. The affidavit was sworn to by John Meyer, the timler man The case was filed before S’quire James H. Smith and the affidavit sets forth that on Match 2, 1901. John Meyer, took a gold watch val-

Mr. Meyer says that at different times he call ed upon Mr. Closs. who always put him off. stating that the watch was not yet repaired, but would be in a short tme. That a year now has almost passed since he took the watch to Mr. Close, and he has never recovred the same. The case was sat for a hearing at one o’clok|today. b ut upon a motion by Mr. Closs it was continued untl one week from next Monday. Mr. Closs states that immediately after Mr. Meyer brought the watch to him he sent the same to Chicago to have it re paired and that the firm he sent it ; to has never returned it. although he has demanded the same on several different occasions. : Now is your time to have portraits made. Congressm in ('romer, who worked it through the lower chamber, has worn out a great deal of shoe leather visiting memtiers of the senate committee i on the judiciary, but be cannot get j them to act on the bill. The plan is t<> send it to a somniferous death by the slumber route. It has be- j conic noised about congress that Federal Judge A. B. Anderson and Noble C. Butler, clerk of the federal court, are against thia bill and that their views have had much to | do with shaping the attitude of the I senate committee.
