Berry returned to Hoagland last evening, after spending Sunday here with relatives. Mrs. Martin returned to Fort Wayne last evening. While here she was a guest of friends. Miss Bessie Andrews arrived last evening from Monroe, and is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Wise. Miss Gertrude Teeple returned to Fort Wayne last evening, after being a guest of relatives here. August Freeze returned to Fort Wayne last evening. While here ho was attending to busii.ess. Hiram Gregg returned last evening from Geneva, where he was attending tc insurance business. J. D. Augsburger, a genial citizen of French township, was here today, attending to gravel road business. Miss Baughman returned this morning to Fort Wayne. While here she was a guest of her father. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Woods returned last evening to ’Warsaw, after making a visit here with Mr. and Mrs. E. Woods. E M. Powers returned last evening to his homo at Kansas City, Mo., after making a visit here with Mr. and Mrs. Dick Towsnend. Miss Edna Crawford is again able to resume her duties at the Bostcn Store, after being absent for several dnvs on account of sickness. R. K. Allison left his morning for Gal vest n, Texas, where he will consult with the Nuttman heirs on special business. He will be absent a week or more. Chase Dickerson and daughter, of New Lisbon, Ohio, were guests of John Mayer and family here yesterday, being enroute home after a visit with relatives at Monroe. Mr. Dickerson is an engineer on the Chicago & Erie.

Miss Lizzzie Lang returned today from Gas City, where she was visiting relatives. The Bachelor Maids will meet this evening in social session with Miss May Niblick. Will Zwick left this morning for Chicago, 111., where he will look over some special prices of furniture. He will be absent several days Mrs. Colter and son and Miss Bessie Parker of London, Ontario, went to Pleasant Mills, today, to visit a short time with Mr. and Mrs. Martin Berry. D. N. Erwin and wife left today for a two months’ absence in Arkansas, going first to Jonesboro, where they will make a prolonged visit with Fred Falk and family. Henry Dirkson went to Fort Wayne this morning to examine the interurban cars From Wayne lie will go to Indianapolis, where he will attend to interurban Rev. E. A. Allen informed us today that he desired to recall the notice of church services this evening at the Presbyterian church, as was announced yesterday, and wishes his congregation to take due notice. Joe Depinot left today for Fosto - ria, Ohio, where he will visit for several weeks with relative* and other friends. This is Mr. Depinet’s first visit to Fostoria in years, and he will once agaii visit the old homestead. The Monmouth Literary club will meet this evening and discuss the subject of divorce, and upon the decision of the judges will rest all future legislature. Great preparation is being made by the principle speakers, and the subject will be thoroughly aired. Hogan Bros., who have been buy ing up stock here for a few days, left this morning for their home in South Dakota, having purchased twenty-two head of Adams county horses, which will be shippeel direct to their big stock farm in the above state. W. H. Fledderjohan went to Fort Wayne this morning, taking with him $300,000 worth of bonds, which he will have acknowledged from Fort Wi yne. He expects to go to j Indianapolis where he will thor oughly examine the large interur- | I ban cars. John Lose disposed of one "of his fine Leghorn roosters this morning Ito William Van Camp for sls. Mr. Lose handles only the full blooded fowls and he is receiving like orders everyday from surrouunding chick en fanciers. It is the intention of Mr. Van Camp to go into the chick en business proper. Will Archbold, the Adams Express man, is the proud possessor of a brand new little red delivery wagon, and without doubt Will is the proudest man in Decatur today as he now goes driving around delivering his goods with his head in the air as much as to say, “1 guess lam it with my new wagon.” The wagon is a hummer and Wil] may feel justly proud of the same after what he had to contend with for several years. Last evening about a dozen of the young friends of Robert Luke called on him to remind him of his birthdiy. Their call was so sudden and unexpected that though he was somewhat pale, occasioned by a recent illness, yet be turned decidedly paler ns they trooped in and unceremoniously jostled him. After regaining bis self possession some- , what he invited all to turn in and , have a good time, which they did in a manner characteristic of the young. Miss Kit. 10 Christen entertained a numtier of her lady friends this , afternoon from two to five at a thimble party in honor of Miss Emma Jackson, who is to Im marred on January 25 to Mr Robert Meyers, of Columbus, Ohio. The afternoon was most enjoyubly spent and Miss Jackson was the recipient of a number of beautiful and costly presents. Refreshments were serve I and at a lute hour the guests departed, wishing Miss Jack son a l ing and happy married life.

Elias Crist went to Indianapolis today to attend a meeting of the state tux commissioners. Mrs. J. Cross went to Willshire today, where she will visit with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Jones. Low Corbin went to Willshire today, where he will assume his duties as instructor for the Willshire band. W. W. Oman has been appointed deputy postmaster at Bluffton, he taking a vacancy made by the resignation of George Sharpe. It is the opinion of some of the wise ones that Mr. Oman will succeed ‘to the postmastership, the next time a new deal is made. The Bluffton Business college opened yesterday. They will teach commercial bookkeeping, commercial law, rapid calculation, spelling, penmanship and stenography. Especial attention is given to arithmetic. The bookkeeping department is in charge of Professor P. A. Allen, who is thoroughly competent to handle anything in this hue. Mr. Lester will have charge of the shorthand an t typewriting depultments while J. B. Merriman wui deliver the lectures on commercial law.
