Julius HougkJ informed us last evening that he is having considerable trouble at his Blue Creek stone quarry with thieves, who in fact f steal anything they can lay their ■ hands on. They on Thusday night • stole a ton of coal and two weeks ’ ago stole <BO worth of tools. He 1 knows the party who stole the coal and unless he is reimbursed for the ' same will turn the guilty parties over to the proper officials. A farmer says that he rids his farm of rats in the following man ner: “On a number of pieces of shingles I put about a teaspoonful 1 of molasses and on that I put a , small quantity of concentrated lye , and then put the old shingles around under the cribs. The next morning I found some forty dead rats, and the rest left for parts unknown. 1 have cleared several farms of the pests in the same way, and never knew it to fail.” County Superintendent Brandyberry of Adams county, has withdia.vn his resignation. When he announced his intention to resign, candidates sprang up on every side for the place.
