NEW LAW ‘ Road Supervisors Elected January 14 Election Held In Each Road District ) on the Above Date. The last legislature passed a new law in regard to the election of road supervisors which goes into I effect this year for the first time. A few years ago it was the law that supervisors should be appointed by the township trustees. About six years ago it was changed so that the supervisors were elected on the township ticket every two years, all over the state, the township voting for all the supervisors. The new law, however, carries out the principle of home rule and local self-government to the extreme, and now no one is allowed to vote for a supervisor outside the road district in which the supervisor is to serve. This includes all voters in incorporated cities and towns. The election for supervisor is also held at a different time from the general election so that local issues strictly will be considered. The first election under the new system will occur J anuiry 14 and the newly elected trus tees who go into office January 1 have full authority to select the I voting places, one in each district, and the time of opening and closing the polls, just so they are open two hours. An inspector appointed by ' the trustees and two clerks ap- ■ pointed by the inspector have charge of the polls and they must serve without pay. No ballots are] to be printed at public expense and the Australian system does not have to be used. No nominations have to be certified to and it is a go-as-you-please affair from beginning to end. However, its simplicity and freedom from expense are admirably adapted to the purpose and it is expected to prove highly satisfactory. From now on candidates for these positions so important to the rural population are expected to spring up on all hands.
