Lawrence Durbin, of Continental, Ohio, is in our city, the guest of , relatives. Dick Neptune returned today from Rome City, where he spent the summer. Miss Maude Surff returned to Fort Wayne this morning to resume her school work. Rev. Hutchinson arrived today from Plymouth, being enroute to Willshire, Ohio. J. M. Frisinger went to Geneva today, to attend the opening of the republican oanqstign. Miss Mary Laisure of Hoagland, passed through our city this morning enroute to Rochester. Miss Grace Peterson left this morning for Shelby, Ohio, where she will trim this season. Mrs. W. G. Spencer returned yesterday, from St. Louis, where she was taking in th? big fair. The funeral of Mrs. Witte, who died Friday at Fort Wayne, was held yesterday afternoon at Friedheim. Jesse Sutton went to Geneva today, where he will assist in ojiening the republican campaign in “Adams county. Miss Marie Brown returned to Fort Wayne this morning, after visiting here over Sunday with her parents. Mrs. Rodgers returned to Indianapolis today, after visiting here for a short time with her fa ther, Mr. Cunningham. Mr. and Mrs. Crawford returned to Perrysville, Ohio this morning, after visiting here for a short time with relatives. Dr J Tanohill, of Battle Creek. Mich., and Miss Elva Platter, of Auburn, arrived today, and are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Gales. Mrs. C. C. Schafer is at home from Chicago, wh ere she was operated on several weeks ago. She is recovering rapidly and will soon be in excellent health. She wil 1 leave next week for a visit with her parents near Converse.

Ralph Knuff returned to Berne this morning, after spending Sunday here with his mother. Miss Jessie Bl ossom returned to Berne this morning , after a visit with her mother in this city. • Mrs. Holmes arrived this morning from Portland, and is the guest of her daughter. Mrs. Craig. W. S. Hughes and son Earl left this morning for Lima, Ind., where Earl will enter the military school. Rev. John C. White went to Geneva this morning to assist in the missionary convention held there today. Nat Popkins and Joe Lyman went to Fort Wayne this morning to celebrate the Jewish Yom Hakippurim. Mrs. John Niblick and son Burton, left this morning for Lima, Ind., where? Burton will enter the military school.

Wednesdav afternoon at the St. Johns chnrch will occur the wedding of Miss Lizzie GaHmeyer to Richard Holbrock. A number of jieople of this city have been invited and expect to attend. John GiUig left last evening for Columbus, Ohio, where he will again resume his work in the engineering department at the Ohio State University. John expects that this will he his last year there. L. A. Coleman, of Indianapolis, law partner of Major Holtzman, ]»ssed through our city today, en route to Geneva, to inspect the Ruby Oil company's belongings which are situated on the Moran farm in Jefferson township. Tom Railing, who is now playing ball with the Lima. Ohio,- independent team, spent Sunday here with his brother, Charles. Tom states that Lima is playing fast ball, and beating everything that they have played since he became a member of the team. Tom is pitching for this team and is doing remarkably well. A threshing record was made Saturday by Messrs. Beiblicks & Wetting's threshing outfit at the farm of John Eiting when they threshed out four hundred and forty bushels of oats in one h-ur and forty-five minutes. This record will no doubt hold good for some time, as old and experienced men say it is remarkable. Owing to the heavy rain that set in early Sunday morning, the bull game scheduled between the Mon roevilles and Rosenthal's was postponed until next Sunday, when the merits of the two aggregations will be tested. The grounds were in a Very soft condition and unfit for fast work, hence the cancelling of the date. Monroeville has a strong team and many of the fans were disappointed on account of the rain. Mrs. Sarah Miller went to Ridgeville [this morning, to attend a reunion of the 89th regiment, and from there shew ill go to Winchester. to make a short visit with relatives. Owing to the resignation of Herb Majors at the Clover Leaf'as day operator a slight change has been made. Sam Shamp assuming theda.y job and J. Laphan the night job. Charles Christen, the architect, has secured a contract to draw I plans and specifications for a large cemetery vault at Portland, which when completed will cost in the neighborhood of i 1,500. Virgil C-, the fest little 2:20 pacer owned by Dr. D. D. Clark and J. M. Miller, captured second money in the 2:20 race at Paulding last Thursday. The time of the fastest heat was 2 :!'}£. The Ben Hurs are invited to meet at their lodge room tomorrow evening, September 20, the occasion being a social one given in honor of Rev. and Mrs. Pontius, whoi will soon leave Decatur. E. A. Mann. They expect to complete the same this week. Miss Irene Schirmeyer is now a student at Oxford college, she hav- i ing begun her Collegiate life there • few days ago. Oxford college is one, if not the best college in the country, and Miss Irene is fortunate that she is privileged to receive her education at the shrine of such a , good college of learning.
