PARKER of New York. For Vice-President HENRY G. DAVIS of West Virginia Judge Parker opened the campaign a little prematurely, but he did it 1 well and grew some in the eves of the 1 country.—Fort Wayne Sentinel. At Fort Wayne this afternoon will 1 occur a great political event, in the i' naming of a candidate for joint senator for the district of Adams-Allen. • The solitary form of J. M Frisinger represented the Adams county g. o. p. In answer to many anxious inquiries we will say that the Hon. Henry G. Davis is estimate I in
wealth at twenty million dollars. He is an able man and will help along the good old ship of state with his influence and incidentally will slip in a few cords >f gilt. It has been estimated that from two to five hundred thousand dollars will find its way into the national Campaign treasury. Were Senator Hanna alive, even he would note 1 with alarm, etc. 1 he Chicago Chronicle has at last had honor enough to get over the fence and publicly proclaim its allegience to the party it always supports. Heretofore it represented itself as being democratic but not once in the past several cam-; paigns it not only opposed the democratic nominees but it reviled and vilified them as well as the party they represented. It now undergoes the formal change of being republican in name as well as in policy. There is not a thorough or died-in-the- wool democrat who will not rejoice in this announcement. Walter Wellman covers two and one-half columns in the Chicago Record-Herald in which is gracefully written many commendations for Judge Parker. He also speaks with some authority about how the eastern wing of the party intends to play some practical politics. The south have one hundred and fifty three electonal votes, and they propose to add to that New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island. New Jersey. Delaware. Maryland and West Virginia, which would only leave them six less than enough to elect, and these six may be had in Montana or Nevada. To make up for possible failure to carry New Jersev. Island, they will wage an earnest fight in Indiana and Illinois, but they will avoid the silly efforts of wasting time and ammunition in Kansas and other states where democratic effort would be regarded as rainbow chasing. The scheme is practical, and with the Hon. T. Taggart as national chairman, will be carried out with all the fine finish and frills of this ad-j 1 vanced age of political kiting. People who are distressed over the absence of a financial plank in the Democratic national platform I should learn to console themsevjes. The monetary standard of this country is an established fact. Its existence is neither strengthened nor weakened by a platform declaration. The ’real purpose of a platform declaration is or ought to be to indicate what a party intends to do if intrusted with power. The gold standard having been established. silence on that subject can be legitmately construed only as acquiesence. And that senough. Down east there may be people who are unduly sensitive about this, but in the country at large the , people are by no means worried over any possible danger that may in the dim future menace the per- i manenea of the gold standard. As a matter of fact the great majority of the people are saisfied with any monetary standard that insures ' stability and safety —South Bend j Times. The Fort Wayne Commercial Club have elected new officers, they being Robert Willard president. B. Paul Mossman first vice president,
E. M. Wilson second vice prsident and Charles E. Bond treasurer. The state bar association have a meeting at Fort Wayne Thursday • and Friday of this week and it is likely several members of the Adams county bar will attend.
