The Christian Endeavor Society will hold their regular social and business meeting this evening 'at 7:30 at the Presbyterian church. All are requested to be present. The St. Vincent De Paul Society will meet at'ihe home of Mrs. Henry Schulte Wednesday. June, 8, 1004, some business of importance to transact and every mem ber is expected to be present. Some time ago s petition asking the Town Council to macadamize Lehman street from Main street south to the residence of Jacob Schindler was circulated omong the property owner of said street. Os the eighteen property owners on said street, thirteen signed their names to the petition. The council is now considering the matter and they intend to take action on it at their next regular meeting'which is Monday, June 13.—Berne Witness.

Ed Irvin arrived today from StMarys where he has been working for some time in a restaurant. Harry Harb arrived from Geneva this morning and will lie the guest of his mother Mrs. Chronister. Jacob Atz left this morning for West Baden where he will take a course of treatment for his health. Louis H. and W. C. Reynolds went to Geneva this morning where they will complete a job of plastering. Mary Bryan returned Jto Kokomo today enroute from Portland where she attended the funeral of her father. The Bon Ton club will meet in regular social session tomorrow evening with Miss Gertrude Bremerkamp. Mr. and Mrs. Lase Ellis returned this morning from Indianapolis where they were visiting with Mr. Ellis’ mother who is sick. There will be a meeeting of the City Band tomorrow evening at the council room at 8 o’clock. All members are earnestly requested to be present. The Schafer Hardware Company's building is receiving a nice coat of white paint today and when complet ed will add materially to its appearance. A Kokomo youth will be an important witness in the Gillespie trial at Rising Sun when that noted case again comes up. His identity is being concealed. The first division of the June section, Ladies Mite Society of the M. E. church will give a social at the h<sme of W. E. Russell, Friday afternoon. Everybody invited. Mrs. Harry Deam of Bluffton went to Lima this morning where she will attend the commencement exercises at the Howe Millitary School in which her son Burt Townsend takes a prominent part.

Mjss Elizabeth Patterson and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Myers of Decatur, and Mrs. Bernice Barton of Kingsland, Kansas, were guests yesteiday of George Morris and wife.—Bluffton News. Bud Miller, near Bluffton, became violently insane Friday evening and attacked members of bis family with a loaded cane. He was recently dis-; charged from the Richmond asylum as cured, but will be returned. Bids were opened for supplies for I the county infirmary. Keubler and Moltz getting the drygoods, Niblick and Company groceries, Lock & Dirkson hardware, Henry Knapp machinery, M. Burns repairs, Holtbouse Drug Co., drugs, T. R. Moore gasoline. A newspaper in a neighboring town had a notice of a “rag sewing bee,” and either by mistake or premeditated willfulness the compositor made it a “rag chewing bee.” The editor got an excellent illustration of what such a function is like the next day after the paper appeared. His wife was president of the society.

The following reply has been received by us in answer to to the question “Why is is Ft. Wayne, called the Summit City?” The answer given is that Ft. Wavne rests upon the highest point in Allen county running east and west, it being 785 feet above the sea level while all other ! points are lower, hence the title of I “Summit City.”
